... we'll see just how 'in love' you are with her when you're sleeping on the couch tonight!"

I rushed to her and picked her up, and she squealed at me. I carried her to the back of the couch and stopped, locking eyes with her. I kissed her deeply, lovingly, her arms draped around my shoulders.

And then I dumped her on the couch cushions and went back to the kitchen, laughing. She landed softly, and sat up, her hair a mess.

"You," she said, "are an absolute ass!" And ran up to me. This time, I grabbed her wrists and held them by her sides, trapping them. I bent down and kissed her, until she relaxed. I should have known better to fall for the trap, because she looked up at me, smiling, running her hands under my shirt, and found some tender skin and gave me a pinch. As she turned to run away, I tried to swat her ass, but she was too quick and all my hand caught was air.

"Toooooo slow!" She taunted me, laughing again.

I stood back, admiring the view of the woman I loved, and loving the time we had together. I was excited for tomorrow, and I knew it would be the beginning of something really special for her.

"Hi, Jason! How are you?" Hailey asked as I walked into the law firm lobby.

"I'm doing well, thanks! And you?" I replied.

"Great! Hey, you clean up nice!" She said. I'd pulled my suit out of the back of my closet and put on a tie as well. I wanted to be dressed nice for this announcement.

I thanked her, and at that time Susan came ...
... out to get me. I text her when I was pulling up, so I walked back with her.

"Carly thinks the conference room is being set up for a client lunch today. But what I'm going to do is get everyone in there, then call her in and we will surprise her. I'd like for you to read the letter from the firm to her." She handed me an envelope.

She took me to the conference room, where I went in and greeted everyone, most of which I'd met in the last months. Carly had developed friendships throughout the office, so the familiar faces I'd seen from work functions or nights out were welcome. There were around 40-50 people in the huge conference room, and so I stood toward the back, not wanting to be immediately noticed by Carly as soon as she walked in.

Susan got the crowd quiet and left to get Carly, returning a few minutes later. Carly entered first, to loud applause and whoops from those in attendance.

"I'd like to share some great news! Jason?" Susan said. I stepped out from the crowd and Carly saw me, knowing now exactly what this was all about, tears already starting to form.

"Dear Ms. Sims," I read, "the board of directors would like to thank you for your hard work and diligence to our organization. We are pleased to announce that you have been selected to be sponsored to attend law school and earn your Jurisprudence Doctorate. We thank you for your dedication and look forward to working with you for many years."

Once again, applause and cheers broke out from the crowd, ...
