... Carly receiving hugs and handshakes from paralegals, associates, and partners. Lunch was catered, and I sat next to her, her smile never faltering. Susan sat on her other side and was talking to her about what to expect.

"We are going to get you started in the fall. You will still be employed here, but your primary responsibility will be school. So you'll attend your classes, of course, but everything in this firm is open for you to use as a resource. There will still be a few things that you'll work on, but your main focus will be school. As soon as you pass the bar, you will be an associate of this firm!"

Carly looked over at me, that same determined expression that makes me fall in love with her over and over again. I knew at that time that she would complete law school easily, and achieve her dream.

"I still can't believe it!" Carly said. She called my parents, who insisted on coming into the city to celebrate with her.

My mom, sitting next to her, held her hand. "We can't even describe how proud we are of you. You're going to do great!"

"Yeah, you're going to make law school your bitch!" Julie said, getting a laugh.

My dad didn't say much, but was so proud, sitting back, a satisfied look on his face. He was as happy for her as if she were his own child. And she was, in a sense.

She called her mom and shared the news as well, and they celebrated together for a while, talking about her future as a lawyer. I was glad that her mom stepped up and they continued to talk, at this point most every day, and could see their relationship start to bloom.

Even Beth stopped by one evening to congratulate her, bring a message from John Howard, the prosecutor at Rick's trial, to come visit her if she ever wanted to put bad guys away. While that wasn't what she wanted to do as a lawyer, she thanked him profusely anyway, and appreciated the gesture.

I was standing at the counter, almost overwhelmed at the sight before me. I truly had no idea there were so many different ring designs, diamond cuts, colors, configurations, and it was really starting to make my brain spin.

"Can I help you?" An attractive young lady on the other side of the display asked me, walking up.

"I sure hope so..." I said, my voice trailing off a bit.

She laughed, having seen this before. "I definitely can. Thinking of proposing?"

    "Yep," I said.

    "Awesome, congratulations!" She said.

Lindsey, as she introduced herself, spent two and a half hours with me, poring over different diamonds and settings. She was amazing. She helped me pick what I thought was the right size for her hand, and a setting that would be perfect.

"A lot of men come in here ...
