... sorry that you thought sleeping with him would get you all of it, but it seems that he wasn't as bad as we thought. I wish he would have told me before he died, I might have treated him nicer."
"How is this even possible?" Barbara shouted, ignoring Kate entirely. "I saw Henry's will last month, he left everything to me. Jack must have pulled some kind of trick."
"There has been no trick madam, nor mistake," the lawyer said in a cool even voice. "This will was notarized in my presence more than eight years ago."
"That fucking bastard!" Barbara shouted. "You mean to tell me he was never going to give me anything?" I couldn't help but join in my siblings' laughter. I hadn't expected any of this, but now that it was happening, it felt pretty great. As much as I already missed him, it felt good to know that he had always had me in mind. And for all the hard times his wife gave me, he had always planned on taking care of me, just like he always promised.
"He can't leave me nothing!" Barbara said. She was very clearly beginning to panic. "I'm his wife! This has to be illegal!"

Ron burst out laughing at that, knowing exactly how she had always treated me. Barbara continued pleading with the lawyer, until he finally gathered his things and left. The rest of the family all congratulated me, treating me rather differently than they had just ten minutes before. Ron and Kate both congratulated me as well, and I could tell that they were actually being genuine. Barbara left the room without saying a word to anyone. I stayed a while longer, enjoying the new way everyone was treating me.
When I finally left, I drove home, feeling both sad and happy. It was an odd feeling. But when I pulled into the driveway, that's when it all really hit me. Dad had left it all to me. I probably didn't even have to finish college now if it didn't want. I had everything I could ever need. I got out, and walked into my own home, feeling a strong mix of emotions. I sat down and turned on the TV, and was just starting to settle into my new situation, when the front door opened, and Barbara stormed in.
Her hair that had been done up so nicely for the funeral was in disarray. There were long black tear tracks going down her face, none of which had been there before the will reading. When she took ...
