Mat cuts him off and says, "I'd love to. I don't live far from here, as you know. I'll make coffee, and we'll sit in front of a nice fire and talk about anything you'd like."

They drink coffee, talk about work, about literature, and more specifically, about their passion for detective novels. The evening is, for both of them, the best evening they've had in a very long time.

Karl follows Mat to the kitchen counter, where they bring their cups. Mat turns around to take the cup from Karl's hand when Karl takes Mat into his arms and kisses him. It's very light at first, but the passion soon takes over, and Karl's full lips are all over Mat's neck, ear, and mouth.

Karl breaks the embrace and smiles at Mat. Without saying a word, he gets to the door and puts his shoes and his coat on. Before leaving, he looks at Mat, who hasn't moved a muscle, and tells him, "I love you, Mathieu."

He quietly steps out and leaves lighthearted — the happiest man in the world.There, I finally told him. As he slowly walks home, his cell vibrates. He picks it up and reads Mat's message: "I love you, too."

Whistling softly an walking on a cloud, he hears the usual comment people make when they see him. This time it's a couple who makes it, without shame, as they cross paths on Place ...

"Wow!" The guy says. "Scary dude." The woman giggles.

"Thank you," replies Karl, smiling broadly, knowing that smiling is not to his advantage. "Much appreciated."

The couple grimaces and walks away.

It looks like I've ruined their fun, he thinks to himself smugly.Too bad, so sad. Like they say. He continues on his merry way.

Monday, December 8, Humana Project, phase II.

All the construction permits for the Humana Project, Phase II, were finally delivered last Thursday, December fourth. Karl gave the go-ahead to a contractor to enclose two street blocks situated next to the Phase I project. A large boulevard will eventually separate them.

Karl and Steve sit on the back gate of Steve's pickup, watching the contractor unload the eight-foot-tall wire fencing. Eight guys are unloading the self-supporting panels, while the other four are installing them. Seeing that everything is going smoothly, they return to the office. They plan to be back on site by four o'clock. According to the leader of the team, the work will be finished by then.

The team leader delivers what he promised, and just after four o'clock the gates are securely locked. Four rented trailers have also been installed in the street, separating the two blocks. Karl makes sure the trailers have been levelled properly and that they are completely empty. The trailers will sleep there all winter. One will be used that very week by the surveyors.
