All of that will be connected by underground passageways. Again, Karl wants Mat to accompany him during that process. This is a very big and very different project. There's lots to learn. Mat, with Steve's help, will supervise the surveyors' work. Mat knows the plans by heart, and he can answer any question instantly.

Chloé specializes in all the building sub-systems, like plumbing, electricity, ventilation, and even the more complex modern ones. She's scheduled for field work during that phase of the construction. Karl wants her to see what her work on paper looks like in reality; he considers it invaluable experience.

Steve will support Karl, Mat, and Chloé when they're in the field. He will see to their security, of course. He loves field work; he'll be served right by this project.

Jules approved Karl's plan for his staff, though he realized that there would be an impact on some of the ongoing projects. He's not overly concerned, and confident that he'll be able to manage any problems if and when they arise. He loves the way Karl manages his people. He agrees one hundred percent that designers should get out into the field.

They will have but to roll with their chairs to see what the other one is doing, help out, or discuss issues. Behind them, the space is being prepared for two new junior drafting technicians. Karl will be interviewing candidates with the help of Mat or Chloé, as appropriate.

Jules purchased state-of-the art drafting software; new, larger computer screens; and more powerful computers to run all that stuff. Their current equipment will be given to a school in Pointe Saint-Charles.

Karl walks into the building, but this time he doesn't strip down. The place is full of people. He laughs to himself at the thought. Upstairs, it looks like an ant's nest. People are coming and going with different pieces, unplugging old stuff and plugging in new stuff. Technicians load new software. The complex dance is performed under the guidance of the master conductor, Steve. He seems to be having the time of his life. He's everywhere, aiding everybody, and smiling all the time. Karl is amazed at what that man can accomplish.

By five o'clock, everything is in its place. All is suddenly quiet, except for Mat and Chloé, whose fingers are all over their keyboards and discovering all the toys they have to play with.
