They all burst into laughter. Karl is standing next to Mathieu, his heart pounding as always when he's so close to the young man. Mat avoids looking at him. The same symptoms assail him, too, though. He thinks that he screwed up the relationship and tries to cope with it, repressing his feelings for Karl.

Chloé hugs her, dad and gets lost in her huge man's embrace. Mat correctly pegs him at about six foot five.

"When do you start? Chloé asks, looking at her dad with big, excited eyes.

"In two weeks, time, honey," he answers with a low growl.

Mat can't avoid thinking about Karl and Steve growling and grunting in a language of their own when they'll be working together. The thought makes him smile.

"I'll pick you up as usual, sweetie." Steve kisses his daughter on the cheek and leaves with Karl.

Monday, November 17, at the office, 7 p.m.

Karl and Steve walk in the main lobby, like they do every night, laughing. The place is almost always empty, so they strip to their boxer shorts. Their clothes are wet and full of mud, and they don't want to leave wet mud tracks all the way to the back. The cleaning staff has already been around. They shove their clothes in a basket left by the door precisely for this ritual, which only happens when they come in late, of course.

"What a miserable day." Steve voices ...

... his disgust. "Look at that mess. Damn, sticky mud."

They worked all day in the excavated hole where the foundations for the Humana Community Centre are going to be built. Even though the bottom sits on the bedrock, there's still a lot of dirt, and on a rainy day like today, that dirt becomes very sticky mud. Steve looks up and sees Mat still working. He's wearing headphones and listening to one of his long playlists.

Something's moving just at the edge of Mat's vision. He looks down and sees a half-naked, muscled, hairless giant standing by the entrance door in his boxer shorts, waiving at him.

"Oh! Steve?" Mat says a little too loudly. He removes his headphones to hear what Steve's saying. "What did you say, Steve?"

"Is Chloé with you?" Steve asks with a little concern in his voice. Chloé's workspace is a little behind Mat's.

"Don't worry. Elena drove her home. We didn't want her to walk to the metro station alone in the dark."

"Thanks, Mat. You're a good man."

Karl steps next to Steve, also dressed in his boxer shorts. Mat's heartbeat starts accelerating, and, at the same time, his dick tries to rip his jeans.

"It's seven, Mat," Karl says in a soft grunt. "You should go home. You were here when I came in at seven this morning."

"I'm almost finished, boss," Mat replies, blushing. "Half an hour or so, and I'll wrap it all up for the night."

"Let me take a hot shower, and I'll take you out to Rosa's. I'm sure you haven't eaten yet. Fifteen minutes, ...
