... community centre for Phase I of the Humana Project were obtained in less than three months.
Karl works fourteen to sixteen hours a day. He never complains; on the contrary, by all outwards appearances he's happy. This morning, Steve, Chloé's dad, is coming to see Karl about the job he was offered a while back. At first, Steve thought that the job was something about management, and it scared him. Karl reassured him that it wasn't so — that he'd be getting his hands quite dirty. He told him stories about all the many times he'd come to the office dirty with mud, cement, or saw dust adorning his clothes. That finally convinced Steve to come and have a discussion concerning possible employment. He's very cautious, which is a quality very much appreciated by both Jules and Karl.
Chloé is ecstatic, of course, but she's also a nervous wreck. Mathieu has been hard at work since 6 a.m. He's working on a technical sheet concerning the Humana Phase II submission. Chloé brings him a large mug of coffee and an almond croissant.
"Thanks, Chloé," he says, then notices the state she's in, and immediately understands why. "It'll go fine. I'm sure he'll accept the job. Karl wants him, and the conditions will convince him. You know what the working conditions are here, the salary, and everything else. He can't refuse."

"Okay," she replies, looking at the list. "Not a problem."
They both get their fingers on their keyboards and play the required notes to complete their technical symphony. Half an hour later, they're finished. Mat lets Chloé bring the papers to Elena so she can get a glimpse of her dad and Karl, who are still in the small conference room.
Steve sees his daughter looking in his direction. He smiles and shows her a big thumbs-up sign. Karl smiles, and they continue their discussion. Chloé runs upstairs to her station, pretending she doesn't know anything. Mat doesn't buy it. She's way too calm.
"Spit it out," Mat whispers. "You know what's going on."
"Well, dad made a thumbs-up sign, and Karl was smiling." She giggles like a little kid.
A little while later, Karl and Steve walk upstairs. Steve wants to see his daughter in her "natural environment" as he calls it. The two young people are completely absorbed by what they're working on. Chloé nearly jumps out of her seat when her dad touches her on the shoulder.
"Hey, sweetie," her proud dad softly says to her. He's impressed by all the computer screens surrounding her workstation — especially the big, curved one in the middle of her desk, which is showing some kind of complex schematic.
"Hey, dad. ...
