... responsible for, costing millions, one kidnapping, a mid-level drug dealer in hiding, two stolen firearms... and a lot of angry people." The Chief narrated.
"It all comes back to you."
"I know yesterday got a bit out of hand, but..." Narvaez started.
"You have shown a disregard for procedure, which directly resulted in yesterdays debacle. You gave orders, and failed to understand the chain of events that would follow. People are dead, property is destroyed, there's a child who's been kidnapped, and a drug-dealer is at large," was the Chief's summary.
"If you had been paying attention, you would have realized the situation. For example, instead of a few uniformed officers walking into Wilson Foods unprepared for what was going to predictably happen, it could have been made a SWAT action, and handled in a much safer manner."
"That's what we're going to start with in court." Chief finished.
"We are going to hold you, Director Mallone, and anyone else we can, responsible," finished the mayor. "It may take us years, but we'll get what we're after."
"Agent Narvaez, I intend to make some inquiries also," said Congressman Nielsen. "I don't appreciate these shenanigans in my state. Especially sober, which isn't my favorite state."
Narvaez could only blink while she worked that out.

"I can't do that." Narvaez said, not believing these people.
"You can do that." Chief asserted.
"Agent Narvaez, if Director Mallone is your concern..." said Congressman Nielsen. "...don't be. I'll be looking into that. Smelling that too."
Both Narvaez and the Chief blinked at that.
"Now, if I had to guess..." Chief started again. "... you have orders to catch the dealer who's in the wind. He's enough to catch DEA's attention, and justify the whole operation." Chief then cocked an eyebrow, looking for confirmation.
"I can't discuss that." Narvaez said, just to be difficult.
The Chief just smiled at her for a moment.
"You have authority to operate across state lines, correct?"
Chief only pretended he needed an answer to that.
"Unless you have a magic 8-ball, you don't know how to find Wilson, do you?
Again, Chief didn't need confirmation.
Narvaez looked unhappy. And challenging.
"Gentlemen, at this time, I'd like to thank you for your backing in this situation." Chief said, addressing the mayor and congressman as he stood. "I'll be taking the meeting over from here. I'm certain you have other things to do."
"That I do." The mayor confirmed. "I have a battalion of lawyers to herd into line about this situation. I had other things planned ...
