... for the next few days, but it seems my plans have been disrupted."

He stood, and buttoned his coat.

"I'll be checking in later to see how this is progressing. Keri sends her regards, Chief."

    The Chief just smiled.

"I have a meeting also," added the congressman. "I expect to be kept abreast of things. Maybe aleg too. I like legs. Good day, gentlemen."

The mayor looked puzzled as he turned off the tablet.

    "Chief, all yours."

"Thank you, sir." Chief said, holding open the door for the mayor. The mayor smiled as he left, mouthed 'good luck,' and the door closed behind him.

Narvaez watched the Chief walk back to his seat behind his desk, then she remembered there was another man in the room. She turned in her chair to look at the man in the cheap suit, still leaning against the wall.

His hands were in his pockets, and his eyes were on the floor in front of him.

She then looked at his shoes. They were cop shoes.

She turned back to look at the Chief. It was still his show. She wanted to find a way to let him know how much she resented that.

"Where were we?" The Chief asked once he'd settled in.

"You were squeezing a federal officer in her line of duty." Narvaez supplied.

"I was indeed." Chief said. "It's a nice switch. Just so you know, I have the paperwork from three federal judges, one of whom signed the paperwork preparing this ground for you, directing that you suspend operations, under the discretion of local authority."

    Narvaez ...
    ... had nothing to say.

"I think that with a little bending, our goals match. We all want Lamarr Wilson." Chief said. "Can we agree on that?"

    Narvaez just nodded.

"Do you know where to find Wilson?" asked the Chief.

"Not currently, I do not." Kiki stated, resentfully. "Someone has cut me off from their resources."

"Well, that happens when you fuck up this monumentally."

Agent Narvaez didn't agree, but kept her mouth closed.

"Well, I have the answer to your problems... forget electronically tracking Wilson. We've already gone that route. We even tried his accomplice, Croomer. They've ditched their phones, their cards, and if they're in a car, it isn't trackable." Chief informed her.

    "Then what do you have?"

Chief then gestured to the other man in the room, who looked up at Narvaez at that cue.

"Meet Detective Damar Freeman. He's our interview specialist," said Chief happily. "You mean interrogator."

"No, I do not." Chief said. "He interviews. You DEA and CIA people do interrogations. His success rate is extremely high. He teaches at Quantico twice a year. He can get information out of anyone."

Chief let that sink in for a moment.

"You are so indebted to him, you may never get clear."

Narvaez looked back at the man, who was giving her a level, hooded gaze.

"I owe nothing to anyone." Narvaez stated. "I'm doing my duty."

"Your duty triggered Wilson into kidnapping his son." Chief informed her, some heat in his voice. "I'd say you owe him ...
