... she entered, her father did a double take and said, "Wow, Bambina. You look so grown up. It suits you."

Hearing her husband's words, Angelina Napoli turned and looked at her daughter. "Are you going on a date?"

"No Mama, I am just going to the movies with a friend."

"A BOY friend?"

"No Mama, Jacqui from school. It's just her and I."

"And you're not going to just happen to meet some boys while you are there?"

"No Mama. What makes you think I am going to see a boy?"

"All the makeup. And that's my lipstick! You never wear lipstick. And you're trying to tell me this is not a date."

"No Mama. It's not a date. We are not going to meet boys. It is just the two of us hanging out together. That's all. I swear." Jo looked at her mother, almost daring her to challenge anything she had said.

"Okay, Bambina. Have fun at the movie with your friend. Just don't be back too late."

Smiling now at her mother and knowing that the interrogation was over, Jo stepped up and gave her mother a kiss on the cheek. Then she gave one to her father and headed out the door. "See ya later" And off Jo went into the night.

Vito Napoli when back to reading his newspaper, but Angelina Napoli stood staring at the door for a while after Jo had left. She finally let out a deep sigh and as she turned from the door she thought, "I know she was not lying to me. But why is she lying to herself?"

... watch and she was about ten minutes early. She did buy two tickets for the movie that was the next one to start. When ten minutes turned to fifteen, Jo was starting to get worried. "I hope she's okay." Jo began to run all types of crises through her mind: a flat tire; the car not starting; an accident ("Oh God, I hope she's okay!").

Finally, Jacqui came walking down the block and into the lights under the marquee. Her red hair flowed out of a wool hat. She had a winter jacket that was not zippered. Apparently, Jo was not the only one who wanted her bust to be available to be seen. Jacqui also had a short skirt and tights showing off her athletic legs. Jo couldn't help but notice just how attractive Jacqui was as she walked further into the light and smiled.

"Sorry I'm a little late Jo. I hope you weren't worried?"

"Oh, no, Jacqui. You're not late. I did get here early though so I already bought the tickets."

Jacqui's smile got even bigger and she ask, "Jo, is this a date?"

Jo was completely flustered. She was always so confident but standing before this redheaded beauty, her mind went suddenly blank. "Um, uh." was the best she could get out and she stared like a deer in headlights at Jacqui. But if she felt wrongfooted now, Jacqui's next words almost knocked her over.

"Because I don't mind if it is. I'd kind of like that." When she finished saying that she smiled again and put her hand out, taking Jo's hand into her own.
