... she felt her face move into a grin. She did not recall thinking to smile, it just happened.

"But let me buy the popcorn and drinks. Okay?"

Again, all Jo could manage was a nod. With that, Jacqui let go of Jo's hand and turned to walk into the theater. As they reached the door, Jo handed the usher the two tickets. They walked over to the concession stand and waited in line to get the popcorn. They didn't say anything to each other the whole time. Jacqui would just look over at Jo and Jo would just smile.

Finally, the spell was broken as they started to walk away from the counter. Jacqui said, "I'll get napkins and could you get straws?"

After that they began talking about school subjects and what they knew about the movie there were going to see.

When they sat in their seats, Jacqui held the popcorn container on top of her knee closest to Jo. For the first few minutes of the movie, Jo would reach over and take one piece of popcorn every few seconds.

Jacqui moved her leg up against Jo's and put the container over both of their legs. "Here, this will make it easier for you."

Jo froze in her seat. The feel of Jacqui's leg against hers had stopped her body from working for a moment. Between her own jeans and Jacqui's tights she could not feel much warmth, but just the pressure and knowing their legs were pressed together created an overwhelming sensation for Jo. After that moment, she had no idea what else happened in the movie.

... hand into the popcorn, taking out one kernel at a time. Eventually, Jo and Jacqui's hands bumped together. Jo had been reaching for a kernel and got Jacqui's finger instead. She did not let it go and just stared at Jacqui's face in the darkness of the theater.

Jacqui whispered, "You've been like a hummingbird all night. Your fingers flitting in and flitting out again. Just one kernel at a time."

Jo smiled back and let go of Jacqui's finger. Jacqui took one popcorn kernel and held it up to Jo's mouth. Jo opened her mouth and Jacqui placed the kernel on Jo's tongue. After Jacqui pulled her hand back, Jo bit down on the snack.

Jacqui picked up another kernel and again held it in front of Jo. This time, when Jo opened her mouth and Jacqui put the kernel on Jo's tongue, Jacqui left her finger inside Jo's mouth. Jo finally closed her mouth around the digit. Jacqui then slid her finger from between Jo's lips and whispered, "That's the first time I ever fed a hummingbird." They both giggled.

When the movie was finished, they walked to Jacqui's house. Since Jo had not paid any attention to the movie, she let Jacqui dominate the conversation. When the got to her door, Jo started to turn away, but Jacqui stopped her.

"Jo?"

"Yeah."

"We did say this was a date, didn't we?"

"Yeah."

"Well, it's customary to give your date a good night kiss."
