Jason - he was a total hunk. He was like the guy in the video for "You Belong With Me". He had been a starting wide receiver on the football team and had light brown hair and blue eyes. He was super cute and oh so cool. His parents had bought him a convertible sports car before his senior year. He had always been nice to Heather. He had been dating a cheerleader named Gina for a year and a half. He must have broken up with her recently.

Maria showed up a few minutes later with Ryan Hopkins. The twelve people mingled for a while, chatting about parties they had attended and their plans for the rest of the summer. Jason was definitely the center of the party. The girls all regularly drifted over to talk to him and he was never alone. When Heather talked to him, she could feel herself getting lost in his beautiful blue eyes.

When Heather was alone with Maddie, she asked, "When did Jason break up with Gina?"

"A few days before graduation. I found out Saturday. He was the inspiration for this party. He won't be single for long and I thought that I or one of my friends should be the one to land him." Michael then joined them and they dropped the subject.

Heather excused herself from Michael, Eric and Becky and started to look for Jason. Heather noticed Maddie giving her an evil look, like she had something wicked planned for Heather. She had seen that look on Maddie's face earlier in the evening. Heather knew Maddie could be pretty mean at times and it looked one of the those times was coming up. She hoped that Maddie wouldn't embarrass Michael.

Before she could reach Jason, Maria stopped her.

"Heather, you brought your brother?" said Maria with disappointment.

All the other girls at the party had asked her the same thing with the same tone. She told Maria about Jared backing out at the last minute. Heather was feeling frustrated with the other girls. Michael was good looking with auburn hair, pretty hazel eyes and long eyelashes for a guy. At 5'10", he was the shortest guy there where as Heather was one of the taller girls at 5'7". Yes, he wasn't popular and didn't go to parties, but he was cute and nice enough that Heather wouldn't mind going out with him if he wasn't her brother.
