... seven casinos, including The Emporium, a billionaire whose fortune grew as fast as Vegas did. He was around sixty years old and it had been the talk of the country when he’d married twenty-five year old Carla Hamilton. “That’s me,” the woman said. “Carla Platinum. Not that this is any time for introductions.” She pushed open the office door and ran in. There was another young woman sitting tied-up in the chair behind the desk and she was stark naked. I stared. I couldn’t help myself. Her skin was golden brown and in the midst of the mayhem she looked absolutely beautiful. Carla hurried over and began untying the ropes. “A little help?” she asked and I snapped out of my testosterone-induced trance and went over. “What the hell were you playing at?” I asked as I tugged at the rope. “You tied each other up?” “No. There was another guy,” Carla said. “He went to get some… just some stuff and then he never came back. The next thing we knew the goddamn fire alarm was ringing. I managed to get some of my ropes undone but I couldn’t help Lily without my hands free.” “This was some kind of sex game?” I asked, perturbed. “I thought you were married .” “I am ,” Carla scowled. “Who are you anyway? I could feel the most intense heat and it felt like it was consuming me. My mouth was dry but the sweat was running into my eyes, almost blinding me. We tripped and stumbled across the floor and I really didn’t know if we were going to make it out. By the time we got through the doors, the pressure was throwing chairs and suitcases out of the windows and we went all the way across the street, from where people were anxiously watching. There were employees, guests, security and we all shared a unified sense of doom. “I can’t believe this,” I said, and I thought back to the start of the night, of innocently making cake and screwing Katie. I found myself wondering if she’d got out. She must have. “Oh, thank God!” I heard a man’s voice next to me and suddenly, Carla was being hugged by a man old enough to be her grandfather. “What on earth were you doing? I thought you were out with your friends.” “I was,” Carla said, and she lied so easily you could tell she did it often. “I wanted to ...
