"He hurt himself badly during one of his heats," Gabe said. "He cut out the organ that helps him regenerate his cells and then he... I think he... he tried to kill himself but I found him in time and saved his life. It happened after he told his ex about "the incident", which I'm assuming he at least told you that part if you agreed to spend his heat with him."

I nodded quietly in response as words escaped me. How could I love someone so much and never realize how badly that person was hurting? And from my own hand at that? I felt like a failure, not only as a boyfriend but as a Dom as well. "So.. yeah.. be more gentle or whatever and fix it," Gabe demanded gruffly as his cheeks reddened and he suddenly looked as if he would rather be anywhere but here. Then he shoved his coffee away and stood up.

"Bring him by around seven tonight," I told Gabe. "I'll take care of it."

Gabe nodded, "Also.. you might want to offer to let him pick out some of your clothes. He's going to need them for his nest and I know he'd be thrilled if you offered rather than him gathering up the courage to ask."

"Thank you," I replied sincerely and offered the beta my hand in gratitude.

"I still hate you. I just don't want you to fuck it up anymore, for Ben's sake." Gabe replied with a small growl, ignoring my extended hand as he stalked towards the diner door, unlocked it and let ...

... himself out.

After the beta left I began to make the calls necessary to rearrange not only my evening but contingency plans for the next several days so that I was prepared for Benny to go into heat. Either way, I was planning on keeping my boyfriend close to me for the next foreseeable future. I was as surprised by Gabe's visit as I was for the reason he'd come. Benny really had seemed fine to me. We texted and talked on the phone most evenings and he sounded okay. Maybe a bit tired and a little disappointed on occasion but I thought he was happy? He said he was... He loved talking about the preparations for his heat and he always sounded as if he had tons to keep him occupied. He never once told me that he needed me or why but I still blamed myself. Knowing how wrong I was about my little omega had me in a mad dash, for I had barely over three hours to prepare. It would have to be enough. I intended on rectifying my mistakes.

"What are we doing here?" I asked my brother feeling bewildered. He'd somehow gotten me out of the house and we drove around for a while, no destination in mind. However, he'd eventually drove into the neutral zone and was now stopped in front of Annie's Diner.

"Just get out of the car and go inside. I know you want to," my brother said without really looking at me.

"I can't do that Gabe! Just because I've been.. down lately doesn't mean you can just dump me on my boyfriend! I can't impose with no warning!" I protested ...
