... the city, and after the school was long out of the rearview mirror, Lamarr looked back over the seat to DL.

"Hey, you still got that playlist on your phone?"

"Which one?" DL asked, pulling out one of his earbuds, and holding up his phone a bit.

"That one that's got the Nineties stuff." Lamarr said. "I like that stuff." "Why you likin' that old stuff?" DL asked, pretending to be shocked.

"Old?" Lamarr said, disbelief in his voice. "Just pass up your phone."

DL handed over his phone, after calling up the playlist in question to the screen.

Lamarr took the phone, looked at it, minimized the music apps, and found the Finder app. He uninstalled it.

Later, in about an hour, he planned to take the battery and chip out of DL's phone, and blame it on something being wrong with it. He'd hand over one of the burner phones, and let DL roam the internet on that to keep him quiet.

Out of the city the trio went.

Shawna froze for a moment, once she realized DL was missing.

He'd not returned to school after lunch, and the school officials and teachers had no explanation.

She discovered all this when she'd gone into the school, after waiting fifteen minutes for DL to show up where they were supposed to meet.

She tried calling DL. Then she called the police.

"Damar, I need to see you in my office." The Chief said, leaning into the Bullpen, a room with a collection of desks that the detectives worked at. Then the Chief disappeared back ...
    ... around the corner.

Damar knocked on the Chief's doorframe, he opened the door, and asked "'What's up?"

"Close the door, have a seat." Chief said.

Damar closed the door, sat down, and waited for the Chief to finish whatever he was looking at on his screen.

"Damar, there's a situation." Chief started with, looking up after a few seconds. "As of right now, you are off duty. I'll explain why in a second..."

The Chief then picked up his desk phone, and dialed a number he was reading off the screen.

"Hello, yes, this is Chief Hagen, Metro police... no, I don't... I need to speak to Director Mallone, please. This is a police emergency."

The Chief then held the phone in front of his face to look at it, and said "I'm on hold."

Damar started scanning the medium-sized office for its various pictures, displayed paperwork, and knick-knacks.

"Yes?" Chief said after a couple of minutes.

He listened to the phone, then said "Ma'am, I appreciate that. Have him call me as soon as possible. This is in regards to Agent Narvaez. My number is (555) 555-5555, extension 55. Thank you."

Damar looked at him again, with interest. He'd heard about a DEA agent, who had been wreaking havoc within most of the divisions of the police department, but he hadn't encountered the person himself.

"Sonuva..." Chief muttered. "... Feds and their..."

Then he was punching in a new number.

"Yeah. Mel. It's Hagen. I need to talk to His Honor. Now."

    Damar raised an eyebrow. ...
