Six-fifths of humanity hewed to cultural practices older than Homo Sapiens, while the West organized many of its most fundamental gender relations on legal doctrines that were barely 50 years old. His marriage was silent testimony to his belief that cultural models that had carried mankind from the caves might contain essential wisdoms. He feared the West may have committed grave errors trying to hack biological truths from the human experiment, rather than exploring ways to more gently prune and train them.

Enough wool-gathering. Richard Lester saw that Claire was nearly out the door. "Ms. Richart" he called. She stopped at the door, looking ready to bolt. "Nurse Lester asked if I might escort you to her office. I hope that's OK with you."

This was getting kinda creepy thought Claire. In other circumstances, she'd have welcomed Mr. Lester's attention. He was generally regarded by the girls as probably the hottest teacher in the school, despite the fact that he taught history. Claire had met a lot of girls who wanted to bed him. Claire didn't let herself think about such things. She was too vulnerable to eventhink about acting on such impulses for fear that she actually would. But, of course, he was Nurse Lester's husband.He must know all about me. Her antennae had been quivering during the entire class, trying to pick up on ...

... any sign that he might know. Nadda, until now.Crap! Do I really have any choice? She waited silently while he gathered a few things from his desk and joined her at the doorway.

"Shall we." Richard was impressed with her composure. He'd intentionally staged this surprise, hoping for precisely this kind of response. As he'd surmised, Claire was a very controlled young woman. She'd have to be, for her secrets to have remained secrets this long. It was critical that he be assured of her composure. Yes, she was 18 and in two more months, she'd actually be 19. Nevertheless, she was still a high school student. The law was neutral about sex in this grey area and his school actually had no policies that would prohibit him going so far as to fuck Ms. Richart, if he chose.But getting caught fucking her, or helping her fuck a bunch of young men, might well end up creating a new policy and would not do my career any good whatsoever! He had to be careful. If he felt she might compromise him, his ability and willingness to try and help this young woman would be severely retarded.

They walked silently down the hall toward Kay's office. At the door, Richard moved close behind Claire, invading her personal space as he reached around her to open the door. Richard was mildly surprised when Claire, rather than stiffening at his inappropriate intimacy, instead seemed to welcome the incidental contact against her back. They entered the office as Kay looked up from her computer.
