I walked out to the couch but couldn’t back to sleep. Finally I got up around 6:00, folded the bedclothes, and made coffee. In one of those weird things, once I decided I was getting up, I got really tired, and I fell asleep in the love seat, my coffee steaming on the table in front of me.
I was awoken several hours later by the sounds of Kell moving around the kitchen making a fresh pot of coffee. She heard me stir.
“Do you want any?” she asked.
“Yes,” I called back. “I fell asleep before I drank any.”
The sounds of coffee making continued, then once the pot was brewing, I stood up, picked up my full-but-now-cold mug, and turned to the kitchenette.
And beheld Kell.
She stood in the kitchen in just a sports bra and an open light robe. Her full but neatly trimmed red bush matched her hair perfectly. Some of the hair was still stuck to her skin after last night’s adventure.
She saw the look on my face.
“Oh, right. You’re hung up about nudity, sorry.”
“No,” I said. “It’s fine. I’m just not used to it, that’s all. Sorry to stare.”
“Stare all you want,” she said. “I’d love another mutual masturbation session. Or even the real thing.”
She kissed my cheek, handed me a fresh cup of coffee, and walked into the living area, setting down on the love seat as if nothing had happened out of the ordinary.
It seemed that the genie was out of the bottle, now I had to figure out a way to get it back inside.
“I’ve been thinking,” I said. “You’ve got a ...
... whole section of the studio over there that’s not used. How about if I put my bed and a chest over there. Then we can get a couple screens, and I can have a partitioned area as a bedroom. Just like you.”
She shrugged.
“Okay, but it seems like a lot of work,” she said then patted the love seat next to her. “Can we talk straight, just for once, please?” Her eyes pled with me.
I sighed and sat down, but kept my own eyes locked on the coffee cup I held in my lap.
Kell put her hand on my arm.
“Jacob,” she said. “We have feelings for each other. There’s nothing wrong with that. We’re adults.”
“You’re my aunt,” I said, but my own words sounded weak. “My mom, Bella, is your sister. We shouldn’t be doing . . . things. I shouldn’t have been looking at you and . . . you know . . . while you were sleeping. I apologize.”
“Don’t apologize! Last night was beautiful. Two people who care deeply for each other took pleasure in their company. We can’t keep acting like there’s nothing there. Wasn’t our relationship the reason you took the job out here?”
“I didn’t think it was, but now I’m not sure. I thought I picked this offer because it was away from home but not too far. And because I had family here.”
“Just family?” Kell asked.
I finally looked her in the eyes. “I don’t know.”
“Can we just try for awhile? For a little while? See if it works?”
“What do I tell my mom?”
“I’m not worried about her, and you shouldn’t be. We’re our own two people. This is our ...
