... Edna…to explore her boundaries,” he said. His eyes lock onto hers, the shared connection between them deepening as he continues. "You know, Evelyn, It's the part where Edna starts to recognize her desires."

Evelyn's smile widened. Was he talking about her or the book? She moved closer to him, the cart of books momentarily forgotten. "The novel was progressive for its time - to talk about suppressed desires, challenging role stereotypes, and the exploration of passion."

David's gaze met hers again, and this time, his eyes seemed to hold a hint of recognition, a silent understanding that went beyond the mere discussion of a book. "We could learn a thing or two about surrendering to our desires," he said, his fingers nervously touching closer to hers, gripping her hand briefly as if to communicate their newfound bond.

Evelyn leaned in slightly, her voice lowering conspiratorially. "We?” She smiled at him playfully, “Mmm, maybe it is not about being willing to surrender as much as how far one is willing to embrace it."

He knew where she was going and couldn't shake the feeling that she wanted him to follow her. The anticipation was almost tangible, like a current of electricity in the air.

His palms felt sweaty, and his steps quickened as he made his way to the elevator, trying not to draw attention to himself. He couldn't resist the temptation to see if there was more to this encounter.

As the elevator door slid open, David slipped inside, his heart pounding in his chest. He pressed the button for the second floor, his mind racing with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. At that moment, he committed himself to boldly take this rendezvous as far as he could. He knew that second-guessing at any point would risk this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He stole a quick glance at the reflection in the elevator doors, adjusting his clothes and smoothing his hair in an ...
