... books. Evelyn's lips tightened into a displeased line, her brow furrowing as agitation stirred within her. It was the last thing she wanted to deal with amidst her realm of order and quiet contemplation.
As her eyes lifted to locate the source of the commotion, she observed a young man with an air of confidence that bordered on arrogance. He stood amidst the book stacks, his voice booming as he attempted to woo a girl with his flirtatious banter. Evelyn's disapproval deepened as she observed the girl's stifled giggles, her reluctance melting away under the boy's persistent charms.
The disruption he caused tested her patience, yet she couldn't help but notice his masculine charm as she watched the paradox of power and attraction that played out before her. She watched as he leaned casually against a nearby shelf, a stance that exuded nonchalant confidence. "I... I didn't realize," he stammered, caught off guard by the librarian's stern intervention. His voice, once booming, had now dwindled into an uncertain murmur.
“What is your name?” she said as if cataloging his name to ensure he understood the rules of the library and didn’t have to have this conversation with him again.
“Mike…My name is Mike,” he said feeling the guilt of breaking the rules weighing down on him.
Evelyn's gaze remained unyielding, her expectation clear. "Mike, it's essential to respect the atmosphere of the library," she continued, her tone unwavering. "Please keep your conversations at a considerate volume and allow everyone to study in peace."
The boy's initial attempts to charm had been ...
