"Hello, Andrew? It is Celeste. How are you?"
"Nervous, would you kindly put me out of my misery?"
"Well, I have to be entirely honest with you. I would love to take the job but my hobby prevents it."
"Oh, what is it?"
"I can't say. It's not something I can really talk to you about. It's very unusual and quite embassising."
"You can tell me. I will understand. I nearly joined the local Morris Dancers once."
"No, it's far worse than that. Far worse."
"Now you have to tell me. Your secret would be safe with me. Please take my word."
"Well alright. But remember that you insisted. Promise that you won't judge me harshly for it."
"I could never do that. Please tell me."
There was a long silence.
"Please," repeated Andrew.
"Ever since the war, every so often, I feel the need to go into a pub or hotel and have sex with a random stranger. Never the same person twice.

"I'm so sorry, I know that I would have loved working for you. Please don't hate me."
"Oh," said Andrew.
"No, wait. I understand. I really do.
"Let me think. There must be a way around this.
"Yes, yes. I have a nice big car. If this need takes you over I could drive you into a city and then bring you back again. Yes, that would work. What do you think?" said Andrew.
"You would do that for ...
... me? No. I couldn't expect you to do that. It would be too much to ask."
"If it means you taking the job, I will do it gladly," said the good doctor.
"In that case I had better give you a week to think it over. I don't want you regretting your offer," said Celeste, gently.
"I don't need to think it over. Give in your notice at the hospital. I will make the arrangements at this end."

Sister Celeste Lanyon proved to be everything that Dr Craddock could have wished for. She took care of the paperwork as well as answering the telephone and booking appointments. Celeste filtered out the less serious complaints and dealt with them in her own treatment room.
After lunch, she gave the doctor a list of house calls that required his expertise. Then she got on her brand new bicycle and went off to deal with all the other ailments.
More to the point, the patients all loved her. The women confided in her some secrets that they would never have shared with Dr Craddock. The men lusted after her.
As you would expect, she remained professional and no-nonsense at all times.

Friday afternoon and both doctor and nurse were about to head off out on their house calls.
"Andrew, I think that I will have to take you up on your driving offer tomorrow. If that's OK."
"Oh, yes. Where do you want to go? There's Exeter or Plymouth. Maybe you want to go ...
