"What?" I asked, incredulous.

"I told you, you're not going to get to know everything," she earnestly replied. "Arthur and I - like any lovers - deserve to have privacy. What I - we - choose to share with you has to be good enough. Prying or badgering me for details is just going to piss me off. I'm sure Arthur will hate it, too. If you want me to agree to all of this, that one has to come out."

"I guess that makes sense," I said as I crossed out condition number five. "Anything I should add?"

"Well," she said, deep in thought. "I'm a little surprised there's not a contractual obligation for us to have sex..."

"Oh fuck," I said in horror. "I forgot that part!"

I quickly jotted down Rule # 8 - The frequency and urgency of sex between Ken and Annie Dingle shall not significantly decrease. Annie will be allowed three (3) warnings of a reduction in marital intimacy by Ken before she is considered in violation.

"How's that?" I asked.

"Perfect," she said, giving me a quick kiss on the lips before turning out her light and quickly falling asleep.

I wish I could say that I slept that quickly or easily, but it took me a long time to shut my brain down before I eventually drifted off.

At 5 pm sharp, I was summoned into Arthur's office. We were the only people left in the building, but I closed the door anyway for even more privacy. Silently, we waited for the other to make the first move.

Arthur finally caved. "What's the answer?"

"Before I say yes or no, take a look at this," I responded, handing him my page of rules.

Arthur studied the page quietly, taking his time to read line by line. I noticed his eyebrow raise slightly a few times, but he didn't say a word until he handed the paper back to me.

"I'm assuming you ran these by Annie already? And that's why rule number five is crossed out?" he asked.

"Correct," I replied. "She objected to that one."

"Good for her," he responded with a smile. "If I agree to your terms, then it's a yes from you?"

I nodded. Arthur leaned back, deep in thought.

"What happens when something comes up not covered by your contract?" he asked.

"Then we talk it through like adults," I answered, trying - but probably failing - not to sound sarcastic. "I'm sure this doesn't cover every scenario, I just want to make sure my worries are understood and that if they're not respected, I can put an end to things ...
