... believe he hoped you would kill me."
"I have been following the news. It has been hard to miss. Is it true the FBI believe he orchestrated the kidnapping?"
"Yeah." I giggled. "Sorry that was me. I may have put that thought in their heads. When I alerted them to his attempts to defraud me, and his parents. I may have suggested that I wondered if he had been behind it."
"Jesus, you little sneak."
"There's no proof. They'll never convict him. There isn't enough evidence, but they will make his life uncomfortable for a while. For me the good news is he isn't focusing on the divorce."
"What are you going to do?"
I shrugged casually, as I finished the last mouthful of my dinner. "I'm not sure. In all honesty, I have been asking myself the same question. It's my feelings for you, that's why I'm here. Why I hunted you down, this was not an accident Daisy. I needed to talk to you, see you."
"Wow, I thought you would hate me. You have every right."
"No, I wasn't thrilled about being kidnapped, but you brought my life into perspective. You made me question myself, and what I saw. I didn't like. Lying to my in-laws, cheating them. I can't believe I let Grant's, greed get to me."
"He seems like such a nasty person. I watched him on TV the other night, and his attitude, he was so arrogant."
"He has alienated himself from his parents. They are disgusted with him."
"How do you get along with them?"
"Good, but then I always have. I thought they would ...
... be angry with me, they had every right. I saw disappointment, but not anger. They have supported me."
"That's nice."
"Yes, I feel so grateful to them. What about you, what are you doing?"
"I had to get a job, both Jeremy and I have accepted we're losing the farm. The bank have given us the foreclosure documents."
"I am sorry to hear that. Is there nothing you can do?"
"Oh, if we could make the payments, it would stall the process, but it's just delaying the inevitable. We can't afford to make the payments. Jeremy has moved out. He's gone to Philadelphia. He was offered a job there, and he's taken it."
"How much do you need to pay to stave of the foreclosure?"
"I know it doesn't sound a lot, but if I could pay the arrears, which is only nine thousand. It would stop the foreclosure."
"How much are your monthly mortgage payments?"
"Twenty two hundred, plus all the utilities and insurances."
"Okay, what if I paid the arrears?"
She gasped in shock. Choking on her gateau. "What, why would you do that?"
I smiled, chewing thoughtfully on my fork. "I don't know. I'm attracted to you. I've never felt that before. It feels so weird, and yet I can't argue it. I have to find out if the feelings that have plagued me are real."
"But you don't have to do that. As I already said. I can't afford the place even if you paid the arrears."
"Can I ask you a question Daisy?"
She nodded, her fork scraping her plate as she sucked the last remnants of her ...
