... slipped into my mind... Don't fight this, she's exactly your type and quite literally fell in your lap! Don't act like you wouldn't be attracted to her if you ran into her on the street. All three points of view were valid. I guess it was up to me to see which one would win out. -------------------- I tried to have a feeling of dread as I pulled up to the hospital for night shift. But despite my attempts, the feelings of excitement and anticipation were winning the war in my brain. I walked past the ER, and got in the elevator to the patient wing, where I went and made shift relief with the day shift floor nurses. As I made my nursing rounds, I saved Carly's room for last. I was surprised to feel my heart pounding as I reached to knock on the door. I opened it and stepped in. "Hello, Carly!" She was sitting upright in the bed, already looking a lot better than she was when she came through the ER. She'd had the opportunity to get some real rest, and had help getting a shower today and I could tell that the majority of the swelling had gone down in her eye, and the bruising was starting to go away. Her makeup had been washed off, but I noticed that even without any on, she was naturally gorgeous. She didn't even need it. She beamed when she looked up and saw me. "Jason!" I appreciate that you think that much of me to want to have me looking after you again!" I said. She smiled hearing that, and seeing the smile caused a wave of warmth to wash over me. "Thank you so much," she said. "It's just that you were so great last night, you could have just patched me up and gone on your way, but you stayed to make sure that I was going to be ok, and you really cared about me. I... haven't had a lot of that in my life." I didn't know what to say to that. Anything that came to mind sounded so dumb and cliché in the moment, so I chose to keep my mouth shut until my brain started working again. When it did, I told her, "I'm really glad that I could be that person for you." Instantly, she had tears swelling in her eyes. There was more to her than she's telling, I thought to myself. Not knowing what else to say, I just sat there in silence, my eyes never leaving hers. Finally after a moment, I broke the silence. "So how did your day go today? You look a lot better than you did when we first met." She smiled, seemingly glad to change the subject. "It went really well! When I woke up today, they sent someone to help me shower, that was like being in heaven! I didn't need too much help, she just helped me out of bed and then stood by the doorway, insisting that I take my ...
