"I hope I didn't hurt your hand when we shook, I heard you hit it against something last night!" Susan said, causing Carly to go red in the face.

"Not at all, ma'am. Nothing I can't handle." I replied. I wasn't surprised Carly told Susan what happened, they were pretty close.

Hailed appeared at Carly's door. "Carly, Detective Beth Shepard is here."

We stepped out of Carly's office into the hall. Beth introduced us to the prosecuting attorney John Howard, and the group all walked to a plush conference room. We were taking our seats when Susan walked in.

"Mr. Howard, Susan Whitaker, I'm managing partner and I represent Ms. Sims. Would you mind me sitting in on this meeting?"

They shook hands and John said, "Not at all, please join us. Thanks everyone for coming."

John continued.

"First, I want to cover this because of late breaking developments. Jason, Beth and some uniforms went to the bar where you and Carly saw Rick. They took statements and actually were able to get security footage from the bar that shows exactly what happened. There wasn't any audio, but it's clear what happened. Because you hit Rick in defense of a third person who could have been in danger, My office will not be charging you with a crime."

Carly and I both sighed with relief, and smiled, squeezing each other's hands under the conference table.

"A random run-in didn't cause him to violate the restraining order. If he would have left immediately and not addressed you, ...

... there would have been no issues. But since he initiated contact, and then attempted to physically touch you, we withdrew his bail and issued a warrant for his arrest. He was taken to jail this morning from his house. We are currently working on adding some additional charges."

Carly nodded her head. Susan was sitting on the other side of her, jotting down some notes.

Beth spoke up.

"When we got to the bar last night, Rick was already gone. The people we took statements from said he was out cold for a few minutes. When he woke up, he was told that the paramedics were on the way, and he left. Jason, you really knocked the shit out of him! Wish I would have been there to see it."

That got a laugh around the table, and Carly said, "You should have been, it was great!"

John started explaining more about the actual trial.

"Now Carly, when we start the trial, I will present first. I'm going to show the jury the video we compiled from all the cameras in the parking garage. Then I am going to show the pictures of the injuries that Beth took that night in the ER, and present the complete list of every injury you sustained, along with the doctor's suspicion of a brain bleed. He could have killed you. Then I'm going to call the gentleman that found you and called the paramedics and ask him a few questions. Defense will have a chance to cross examine, and then I'll be finished."

Carly nodded, then asked, "So you don't want to ask me anything?"

John answered, "Carly, ...
