"Kate, if I may still call you that," Nicole replied, still slowly. "You certainly can," Kate interjected. "I didn't anticipate any of this. In fact, I might have thought you'd not want to have anything to do with me after some of my behavior," Nicole confessed. "I owe you so much for your faith in me, especially after how I abused your kindness all that time ago."

Nicole's appointment to Kate's old job as Commandant of the Disciplinary & Retraining Unit was announced about two weeks later, along with her promotion to Major and Cynthia's designation as her deputy and promotion to Captain.

Kate was given the opportunity to select a choice apartment in the same building where Annette and Eleanor resided. They stayed on in their spacious flat. Kate chose a large layout where Harry, Glenda, and she would continue to have their own bedrooms. Kate's contained her ensuite bathroom as well. Her spouses managed the move to the capital well. Harry had no trouble affiliating with a law firm doing the same kind of work he had done in the second city. Glenda filled a vacancy that Eleanor had in her capital office of Goose Cookers as office administrator.

Kate was pleased when she heard that her brother Steve had been named at his company in the second city to succeed Glenda as director of the office.

"I suspect you had a hand in that," Kate teased ...

... Glenda, who grinned and said that she had had a good relationship with Steve ever since Kate had intervened on his behalf long ago.

"He does need disciplining now and then," Kate laughingly confided in her wife. "But now, his own wife will have to see to that," Kate added, and with another wide grin, said, "I intend to fill her in on that need soon."

Harry, Glenda, and Kate frequently had dinner in house with Annette and Eleanor. Glenda saw Annette during the days when Annette signed on as a consultant to Goose Cookers. One night there was a girls-only evening, for which Harry absented himself. He joined two of his colleagues and managed to have a good time without getting loaded.

Annette and Eleanor came to Kate's place. Kate had arranged to have the meal brought in and it worked out nicely. After dinner, everyone retired to the living room and Eleanor especially complimented Kate on her decorating. Kate gave all the credit to Glenda, who was still slightly in awe of both Annette and Eleanor.

"Kate," Annette now observed, "you've already impressed everyone who still is in contact with me since you took on the job. I'm so happy for you, and for the Service."

"Thanks, Annette," Kate said heartily. "You are still a hard act to follow."

"Do you ever feel that you need to be taken down a peg, Kate?" Annette asked her.

"I do," Kate admitted, "but it's not simple for me to arrange for that." She didn't mention that from time to time, she, Harry, and Glenda enjoyed ...
