... that Leprechauns are real, the fantasy and magic will disappear. No, ye be free to go."

"Thank ye again, Millie." He raised his glass and yelled, "To St. Patrick!". I couldn't refuse, so I joined him once again. As the night went on, we toasted everything Irish, refilling our glasses several times.

When the bottle was empty, I yelped, "No more toasts!" Then, I lowered my head onto the bar and passed out.

"Yo, Millie!" yelled Michael. "You didn't have to stay up all night workin' down here. I'm here to help ye clean up."

Without raising my head, I looked over with bleary eyes and a splitting headache and said, "I wasn't workin', I was drinkin'! I caught me a Leprechaun last night."

"Sure ye did, Millie. Lots of people find Leprechauns at the bottom of a bottle this time of year. It's eight o'clock. We need to finish cleaning up and get those dishes done. When ye feel like startin' join me in the kitchin'"

I heard the squeak of the two swinging bar doors that led into the kitchen. Then a moment later, they squeaked again.

Michael yelped, "The kitchen is spotless. Never looked better. Thanks, Millie, fer gettin' it all done."

I raised my head and looked over at Michael. "It twern't me, it was the Leprechaun!"

    "Sure it ...
    ... was," Michael replied skeptically.

I looked down at where my head had been resting, and there, I saw a gold coin.

"Catch," I yelled as I flipped it to Michael.

"Where'd ye get this, Millie? The markings look very old."

"That be Leprechaun gold!" I replied.

Michael's cell phone rang and he answered it. "Yes, it is. May 19th, 1968. It did? That's wonderful news, doctor. You too."

Michael had a smile on his face as he turned to look at me, "My doctor just called with the latest test results. All traces of my cancer are gone!"

I smiled back and cried tears of happiness. I feared this might be my last Saint Patty's day with Michael. Now, I can hope for many more. When I was a wee girl, me mum would tell us that if ye be kind to a Leprechaun, they will reward ye. Michael needed a miracle worker, not a doctor. I believe in my heart that a miracle just happened, and all it took was an act of kindness!

One year later, Michael and Millie had a baby girl. She was born with flaming red hair, and they named her Orla.
