    ... Other."

"Oh, shit. That's not good." Dad took a moment to consider the implications. "Really?" He was now in shock, too.

April grabbed my hand. "Yeah, Dad. Really." I squeezed her hand back. If we were going down, we were going down together. At least I died happy.

The table fell silent. Then I started talking. I told them about how I came to sign up for the app, going through the questions, and finding out April was my only match. Then April told her version, essentially identical to mine.

Mom just sat and looked at us. "At any point did it occur to either one of you that maybe you shouldn't be doing this?"

We shared a glance and a hand squeeze. "It did. It didn't seem to matter. We agreed on everything that was important to us and it felt right. I wasn't going to find anybody like her on any dating app."

Dad sounded confused. "We tested for this and it passed. You should have never been matched."

    "They were, Steven."

"I can see that. We need to figure out how."

"What are we going to do about this now?" Mom was turning purple.

Dad was buzzed, he had to be. "I don't know, Marie. We really can't tell them to stop fucking at this point, now can we?"

That left Mom speechless. She quietly got up and went upstairs, and we heard the bedroom door close.

Dad got up and poured another stiff drink. "Not my finest moment."

"We're sorry. We were going to tell you eventually, when we figured out how."

"Your mother will calm down at some point. ...
... She's more upset with me than you. She loves both of you very much and I think she'll see the light eventually."

"If there's anything else you need -"

"Yeah, can you screenshot your user profiles and text it to me? I need the user number, we can narrow the search down quicker."

April had one last question. "Why aren't you mad?"

"After your second date, we could both tell you were happy. We knew that you were developing feelings for who you were seeing. We recognized the signs. I don't think you can put that genie back in the bottle, even if you wanted to."

He stood up. "Go home. There's probably going to be yelling for a couple of days and you don't need to be here for that. Call her tomorrow, remind her that you love her and never meant to hurt her. Plan on being here for dinner Thursday, I'll let you know if that changes. I'll also let you know when I learn anything about what went wrong."

April gave him a tight hug. We shook hands. "Thanks. Dad. I'll check on you later."

He headed up the stairs as we let ourselves out. The drive home was quiet.

April didn't start crying until we were inside the apartment. I held her until she stopped.

"I don't know what to do now." She still had a case of the hiccups so her sentence came out choppy.

"We call Mom tomorrow, we talk if she wants, and we go from there. Dad's right, we can't change how we feel now. We'll deal with it the best we can."

We spent the rest of the evening cuddled on the couch. We ended ...
