... boy!" she teased "you're going to need to be patient!"

I took her hand in mine and pulled her (ridiculously heavy) suitcase along behind us with my other hand as we made our way back to the tube.

"That's going to take a lot of effort" I said.

As we travelled to Kensington (where else would Kara have ended up!) I caught up on the events of the last few weeks. Danielle spoke little of the funeral other than to say it was 'fine'. I didn't press it. It was a chapter of her life that was closed and that I hadn't really been a part of. I didn't mind if she kept her feelings to herself on it. Danielle told me that Kara was excited to see me again "in the flesh" which I tried not to read too much into. She also briefed me on Kara's family which I tried to commit to memory as we would be having dinner with them later.

When we arrived at the 4 story plus basement townhouse, we were greeted by either Anna or Sophie... they were 8 year old twins who weren't technically identical however they were as good as to me (I spent most of the rest of the evening getting them mixed up)... as well as Melville the dog who was probably the most excited of the three. I honestly am not a fan of animals in general, I have no idea what kind of dog it was other than to say it was large. Danielle embraced her nieces followed by Melville. She then proceeded to introduce me to the girls...

"Is he your boyfriend?" asked Anna (or Sophie!?) to which the other giggled.

"Girls! Don't be rude to ...

... Auntie Dani, that's a personal question." came a familiar voice "now go and tidy away your toys, it will be dinner time soon."

Kara descended the stairs and the girls ran off in the opposite direction with Melville in pursuit. She hugged her sister and kissed her on the cheek. Then she turned to me and smiled.

"Well Danz, is he?" she asked prodding me in the chest exactly like the first time me met, while laughing loudly.

"Hi Kara" I said "nice to see you again."

I didn't make any move towards her but she embraced me as she had just done with Danielle although did not kiss my cheek.

"Come on in" she said taking the case out of my hand and placing it at the side of the door. "Jeez Dani, did you pack the kitchen sink? Tim will be back in a hour or so, I'm just getting dinner ready."

We made our way into a large kitchen diner where the girls were packing away games and colouring books from a dining table. Kara was cooking dinner on the hob and continued her activities while Danielle and I sat down at the table. We spent some time chatting about travel and life in general, with occassional interuptions from Anna and Sophie. It was quite a surreal conversation given how Danielle, Kara and I would previously have behaved in a similar setting all those years ago.
