... liminal spaces as my footsteps echoed throughout the solitary environment. With my quickened pace, it didn't take long for me to reach the coffee shop. My eyes lit up as I saw the storefront lit aglow by lights but that sense of glee was quickly squashed as I saw the sign was turned against the door, 'closed'. I pushed my face against the glass, peering through to see if I could see anyone within. A gentle knock against the door left an echo to reverberate against the surfaces behind me. That sound was undermined however as Kat came rushing around the corner, having caught up with me. 'Any luck?' She asked immediately, struggling to catch her breath. 'They're closed...' I say. 'So..?' Kat replies. She pushed past me gently and checks the door handle, finding it to not be locked. She looks up to me and gestures to the doorway. I nod in response and gently push it open, only for my ears to be met with a gentle sound of sobbing. It wasn't incoherent cries, but instead just a gentle sob. I reassure her, gesturing with my hands up, 'actually, I know it may seem weird but I'd like to talk to you about the man I came in with earlier.' She shook her head immediately in response. 'I said we're closed, please leave.' She repeated, clearly distressed. I was growing uncomfortable as I made the woman upset. The fear in her eyes was something I was scared of myself. 'I will, I mean absolutely no harm. But please tell me if something happened.' I reiterate. The woman steps backward, her body starting to shake. I could tell she was trying to back up from me. Something had shaken this woman to the core. As she steps backward, her foot catches against the counter and she falls down to her backside. She is quick to let out a yelp but I was quicker to rush over to her side. Instinctively, quicker than I had ever moved, I kneel down next to and gently help her sit up. Her immediate reaction was to slap my arm away as she scrambled back against the counter in fear. She stared deeply into my eyes, and within hers I could see a now broken woman. 'I don't want to ...
