I was at my computer finishing up one of my case studies that was due the next day for one of my finance classes. Randall was in the other room working on his computer completing a paper for his statistics class. We were both finishing up our first year of our two-year MBA program. We were lovers and living together. My computer chirped, I had new e-mail, so I clicked on and there was a promo from the local watercolor society of which I was a member. I was a floral and botanical watercolor artist, had won a number of awards and my work was selling briskly in three galleries. The promo featured the work of a prominent floral and botanical watercolor artist down south named Heather. Her work was absolutely breathtaking and had won over fifty awards, many international. She was having her annual art exhibit and sale at her parents’ gallery where she was the gallery director. The gallery was located on the central coast. I clicked on her website to see more of her work. Her collection was mind-boggling, I have never seen such beautiful and perfect work. There was a rose bouquet in a crystal vase that caught my eye. The original was $5,000, but museum-quality prints were much more affordable, all signed and numbered by the artist. I bought a 12” x 16” and it was only $95.00, it was in stock and was shipping the next day. Heather’s bio was impressive. She grew up in her parents’ gallery and always wanted to be an artist. She began helping her dad with framing when she was nine ...
... and waiting on customers when she was eleven. She helped her mother design and hang shows and maintain the gallery. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with highest honors in art history and painting from a prominent women’s college in the northeast. She was an all-star basketball player and took her school to the league championship three years running. After her BFA, she attended a top Ivy League school for her MBA, graduating with highest honors, then returned home to help her parents run the gallery. From her photo, she was absolutely gorgeous, with long blonde hair and blue-green eyes, probably in her late twenties. The next day while having lunch in the caf with Randall, my cell rang, it was Heather calling to personally thank me for my purchase of her art. She said my print had just gone out in the mail and I should have it in couple of days. We talked for a few more minutes and I told her I was a floral and botanical artist, too, and was working on my MBA. I told her she could see my work on three gallery websites and gave her the URLs. We talked for a few more minutes, then I had to close to get to class. I said I appreciated her personally calling me and would love to talk with her more, could I call her back that evening, and she gave me her cell. I couldn’t wait to talk with her again! That evening, I called Heather and we talked and talked. She was so interesting, so intelligent, charming, and even humorous at times, I just loved talking with her. She said ...
