... guess she and your dad don’t exactly get along too well, so she didn’t stay long. Ashley once, but she said she will be here again tomorrow after school. And me.” No mention of Clint. My heart sinks a little, but I’m not really sure if I expected that or not. If he was visiting after work then Eric had to have seen him at least once. I hold on to a small sliver of hope that he’s stopping in during his lunch breaks. Tomorrow then; tomorrow at lunch I will surely see him. “So what are you doing here anyway, Eric?” “Well, that’s a long story, but basically you never showed up to Ashley’s house like you were supposed to. We tried calling you, of course, and even went looking for you by ourselves. Anyway, on Monday we still didn’t know where you were but I saw your dad at school in the principal’s office. I waited around until he was leaving and asked about you. Now, here I am.” “Hm. I’m surprised he’s even letting you in here. He’s pretty weird when it comes to guys and stuff.” “I bribed him. I’m your official homework bringer and note lender,” Eric says with a touch of pride. “Aha, so that’s why you’re here. And here I thought you were visiting a poor, beat up girl because you were her friend and cared about her,” I jokingly say. “I do care about you, Emily.” The softness in his voice makes me open my eyes again. Eric’s fingers brush against the top of my hand and instead of pulling away from him I turn my hand over to lightly hold his. “Thanks for being here, Eric,” I tell him and truly mean it. It’s nice having a familiar face nearby and not spending the time alone or stuck with my dad. His smile widens making his dimple more noticeable. Before I realize his intentions he has leaned over and his lips land on mine. It’s just a light, brief meeting before he straightens up again; his face practically red now. I’m speechless. Caught off guard. Maybe I should feel angry, but I don’t. Eric fidgets from one foot to the other while we both continue to stare at one another. He gives me his sheepish smile again with a small shrug of his shoulders. My room door opens and my dad walks inside. Eric quickly removes his hand from mine and takes a small step back from my bed making space for my dad who barely gives Eric a glance. He starts rambling about being worried, getting home from the cruise as fast as he can, blah blah blah. I nod my head as he talks but I don’t hear his words. Meanwhile, Eric has quietly made his way to the door. He gives me a small wave of his hand before he slips out. “…Clint again.” “What?” The mention of Clint’s name pulls me out of the state of shock Eric’s kiss put me in and I turn my focus to my dad. My dad nods his head, his hand patting the top of mine. “Don’t worry, Tinker Bell. You won’t ever have to ...
