... investigation report for me. Based on what he found, I told him I would either drop it entirely or I would pay his retainer and tell him to investigate this aggressively. Rocco agreed and said he would get back to me in a couple days, or sooner if the red flags warranted it. My next call was to a very good divorce attorney in Raleigh who happened to be my friend as well. I explained the situation and told him that Rocco was gathering whatever information he could. He agreed to represent me and suggested that I serve Susan as quickly as possible. He would draw up the papers, fax them to me for my signature and then I was to fax the signed copy back to him. He would file the papers at the courthouse before the close of business today and Susan could be served tonight. He explained that, as the aggrieved party it made perfect sense to file as soon as possible before Susan could beat me to the punch. I told him to move forward with it. Jan, Dr. Browning's executive secretary, was in charge of all facsimile receipts and mail for the department heads. I stopped by her desk to give her a heads up on a fax which would be coming in soon. I asked her if she could kindly let me know when it came in. Would you like to join us? I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem." That stung a little bit. I was hoping for a nice evening with Lucy but Megan beat me to the punch. "I'm afraid I'll have to pass, Lucy. Maybe some other time." "Frank, you aren't upset with me, are you? Megan brought it up while we were showering together this morning." "Well, you two have fun tonight. I'll figure something out." We said goodbye and hung up. I was almost starting to regret bringing Megan into our relationship, but I realized that it was good for Lucy to have another woman to have fun with and talk about things. I could understand her seeming infatuation with Megan. I just hoped that we could find time for us. When I got home after work, Susan was in her room. The door was open and I could see that she was lying on her bed reading a book. I didn't bother to ask her how her day went. After putting my briefcase away and freshening up, I got on my laptop and looked for nearby restaurants. I may not have Lucy on my arm tonight, but I was famished. I didn't want to try anything new on my own, so I decided to go to Dobby's Place. Just as I was ...
