... look of utter hatred in her eyes was horrifying and she turned to the guy behind her. ”Come on, Bruce, let's go.” The memory of her warm body was so vivid. Macy and Jane. Jane. Macy, I had later learnt from Mr. Newcomb, was Jane's cousin. Jane was now locked away and awaiting trial and that was my doing. It occurred to me that my initial success in making friends had turned and I decided I had better get myself a drink. I entered the first place I came by. It didn't look like much from the outside and was called 'The Backstage'. I could heard music from within and took of my coat. It was a dimly lit nightclub with a live band and dancers. Girls in green dresses walked around serving drinks and selling cigarettes. I took a seat by the bar. ”What will it be?” said the bartender. ”I don't know yet,” I replied. ”On the rocks it is!” I grimaced and turned my gaze towards the stage. Three girls were tap dancing while wearing nothing but lingerie and feathers. I relaxed myself and gazed upon their legs as they flew about. The two of them were brunettes – the one a little more curvy than the other and the third was a tall girl of African descend. ”You'll get a better look up front. If you want an appointment you ask the waitresses,” said the bartender as he returned with my scotch. I rose from my chair and moved towards the stage with the drink in my hand. Her hair was dark brown and beautifully wave curled. ”I already have a drink.” ”Then you might offer me the other,” purred the waitress. Her eyes were hazel. She was thin and her complexion looked unhealthy. She put her hand on my arm. ”I'll promise not to bore you,” she smiled. ”I... Okay, I'll buy you a drink.” ”Then I'll be right back with it.” She walked to the bar and returned with a tray carrying three drinks. I decided I had better leave before this escalated further and got up. ”Oi, sugar! You standing me up?” ”I'm very tired. I'm sorry Miss.” She out down the tray and reached out for me. ”Stay a while? I won't bite. Unless you like that.” ”I really should get going.” ”Ah, I see. You don't need to be shy. I'm not gonna ravage you. What kind of girl do you think I am?” I did not reply. ”Sit down. Tell me about your day!” I sat down again thinking that it could do no harm. ”Ever been here before, sugar?” ”No, I recently moved here.” ”Where from? Pardon me asking, I always wanted to travel. Is it far?” ”Far enough.” ”Do you like to go places? Try new thing? Meet new people?” ”I do. I suppose.” ”Good! So do I! I find it... Exciting,” she she moaned as she moved closer to me. ”What's your name, Miss?” ”Don't 'Miss' me, sugar! Call me Hatty!” ”Very well, Miss Harriet,” I replied. ”Hatty! You know, sugar, you're not drinking.” ”Neither are you.” ”Let's drink to that.” I finished my drink and suddenly felt a lot ...
