... not answer it, but just silenced the phone and tucked it in his coat. The burley trucker stared wide-eyed at Mark. “Should’ve answered it, Badger!” Badger’s voice was not so boisterous now for he knew that Mark had seen her name on his phone. Tension filled the air between the two men. For them, the restaurant had gone silent, but in reality, it was just as noisy as ever. “I don’t know why she’s calling me, Mark.” Mark didn’t even care to know why Badger had his wife’s cell number programmed into his phone. His crumbling heart knew why. “Jessie is calling to tell you that she found something that went missing from your truck!” Mark did not wait to hear Badger’s response. He simply took out a wad of black fabric from his coat pocket and tossed it on the table directly in front of Badger. “You know, Badger, I don’t feel that I have to replace what I took, considering the circumstances. But, I guess, I am that kind of guy.” Mark’s voice started to crack. “She looks great in those too, by the way!” Badger looked down at the black lacy wad and realized they were panties. Mark met him at the driver’s side step. “All ready to go, it was not a big problem but I did reinforce the wire harness so it should not happen again.” “Thanks Jack!” Mark replied taking a twenty from his wallet and offering it to Jack. Jack held up his arms “No, payment needed!” “No, this is for you! It is my thanks to you for being so speedy!” “Well… thanks!” Just then, both men turned as they heard Badger yell from across the lot at the restaurant’s entrance. Mark turned to Jack. “Hey I got to go! “ He then handed the mechanic a one hundred dollar bill. “What’s this?” inquired Jack. “Ah… Badger has a low right front tire!” “MARCUS!” Badger wailed again as he made his way across the yard. “What… a low front tire? On Badger’s truck?” “Yes exactly!” Mark winked at the mechanic as the blue Peterbilt started to roll. “MARCUUUUUS!” Badger yelled. Mark steered his truck down the drive and with a quick blast from the air horns; he rolled right past Badger to the yard’s exit. Mercifully, the light changed green just as he approached. The Pete leaned a little as Mark made a wide turn onto the street. With that, Mark shifted gears and was rid of Badger. Three traffic lights stood in the way of Mark and the interstate. Mark cursed out loud after hitting the third red light in a row. He checked his mirrors expecting to see Badger’s red truck reflecting back ...
