But by the time they got there, Deanna had it under control. But truth be told, she was never out of control of the situation at all. She had remained silent, perfectly calm and merely rolled her eyes in his direction. Though Rick’s punch clipped her chin and drew blood out of one of her nostrils; ultimately that was all he was able to do before she just clobbered him. In actuality, Deanna really didn’t do all that much. Despite his physical assault and all the horrid things he said to her and called her, she did just what she needed to do to defend herself and then exercised tremendous restraint in her counter offensive. Though I wanted Deanna to literally kill him at that moment; it was her love for me and my mother and my entire family that in the end saved Rick from potentially very serious injury at her hand. It also saved him from serious legal repercussions because the police were never called. After consulting with Mom, who was just about as hysterical as I was, Deanna shoved Rick into the arms of his girlfriend and ordered them to leave. She also told the girl that if she had any respect for herself and hope for her future that she should toss him to the curb and move on to better things. ... surrounded her merely replied in a shaky voice: “Yes ma’am!” “Wait!!!” Mom suddenly roared. Pulling herself together by taking a few deep and cleansing breaths, she marched over to Rick and smacked him hard across the face. “I don’t know who the fuck you are, but you are definitely not my son,” she snarled. “You get your shit together or else never ever come around us again! Do you understand me? GODDAMM YOU!!!!” Mom then completely lost it and just started screaming at the top of her lungs and pounding on Rick with her fists. I lost it again and just cratered into Stephanie’s arms. Grandma, Aunt Rose and Aunt Lucy all lost it too. Deanna and Jeff finally had to restrain Mom and literally drag her away. “Get him the fuck out of here,” Deanna ordered his girlfriend again and they immediately left with my cousin Eric and Stephanie's boyfriend Luke escorting them out. That was the last time I saw or spoke to my brother. The rest of the day managed to pull itself back together and we actually had a very nice Christmas dinner as a family. Mom got drunker than shit though and she and Jeff ultimately stayed the night with us, as did Grandma and Aunt Rosie. I felt so sorry for Mom because what had happened was just so hard on her. So hard in fact that just two days later, Jeff had to rush her to the hospital because she was having excruciating abdominal pains. She spent over two weeks in the hospital and had nearly seven inches of her colon removed due to a condition called Diverticulitis. ...
