Rain. It fell hard. It was unrelenting. It was ruining everybody’s plans. Cal stared out through the living room window, gently brushing the thick curtains off to one side. They had planned to revisit the lake that day. He had hoped to rent a boat and take Silvia for a private tour. There were small beaches to see, people on jet skis to watch, and the sun to keep them warm and dry, not to mention providing a nice suntan before the onset of autumn. However, nature had decided to play a cruel trick on the sun worshipers and instead filled the atmosphere with dark, angry clouds. The rain had begun to fall shortly before sunup, and the weatherman on the television giggled as he relayed the news- No sun for at least the following twenty four hours. Plans of boating were officially squashed. As he watched the sheets of rain descend from the clouds, he felt a warm body press against his back. Soft arm snaked across his chest, and warm breath flowed against his neck. He held Silvia’s arm and closed his eyes as her tongue began to dart against his skin, just beneath his ear. “It looks like we’re staying home, lover,” she whispered into his ear. “Yeah, it does,” he forced himself to admit with a sigh. “There go our plans for the day.” “We can find something else to do,” she suggested as she snuggled tightly against his back. A small information box in the lower corner informed them that the satellite feed had been disrupted and the satellite box was searching for the lost signal. “Well” he offered, “so much for that.” “Will it be out for long?” He shook his head as he turned to face her, wrapping his arms about her waist. “No, it usually comes back on as soon as the thick cloud…” He was interrupted by a deafening blast from outside the house. A streak of lightning had struck nearby with enough force to rattle every window in the house, as well as items sitting on the shelves. Silvia jumped with fright, tightening her grip around Cal ’s body. An instant later all the lights in the house turned dark as they lost power. “I guess we’re not going to watch any DVD’s either,” he pointed out. “Does it happen very often?” she asked, referring to the sudden and unexpected loss of electricity. He shook his head as he held her tightly against his body. She was warm and soft in all the right places, making concentration difficult to maintain. “No,” he finally replied as the rain began to fall harder, nearly deafening them both. “Maybe twice in the past ...
