... Victoria declared. “Oh wait,” Amy chimed in. “I’m not quite done yet.” With that, Amy dug into her purse and pulled out her wallet. Opening her wallet, she removed a small slip of paper; a little larger than a business card and handed it to Victoria. “You passed the driver’s test.” Victoria said. “Kid’s legal now,” Amy replied. “Oh honey I am so very happy for you,” Victoria told her. “And I owe it all to you,” Amy declared. “Everybody else gave up on me a long time ago.” “Now don’t you dare try and make me cry my darling,” Victoria scoffed. “Because that isn’t hard to do. Especially where you are concerned.” Amy was very touched by that and lowered her gaze to her shuffling feet. “So did I hear you mention something about a celebration?” Amy asked. “You did indeed my dearest,” Victoria replied. “I believe this calls for a lovely bottle of very expensive champagne and a delicious albeit equally expensive meal at an exclusive five star restaurant. My treat of course! But first, I believe it’s time I taught you how to properly sip a perfectly chilled classic Beefeater martini.” “That all sounds wonderful,” Amy said but hardly convincingly. “What’s the matter love?” Victoria asked. “Would it be okay if my Mom joined us?” Amy asked very hesitantly. “Your mother?” Victoria replied with great curiosity. “That’s another reason I came by today,” Amy told her. “She really wants to meet the woman who has done the impossible.” “She actually put it like that?” “No, but I know that’s ...

Is she at home?” “Uh-huh,” Amy mused. “Then you drive,” Victoria said holding up her keys. Instantly, Amy’s face lit up in a breathtaking smile. Victoria shut down her office and gathered up her belongings. As they were heading toward the door, Amy suddenly stopped and turned to Victoria. “This doesn’t mean we’re going to stop working together, does it?” Amy asked almost pitifully. “Because I don’t know what I’d do without you.” “Of course it doesn’t honey,” Victoria replied softly and gently caressed Amy’s cheek. “True, you’ve come a long way but you’ve still got a long way to go. You’re about to go on to college now. And I’m going to be behind you every step of the way. I promise. In fact, tomorrow is Saturday and I’m expecting you to be at my front door at one o’clock sharp just like always.” Amy’s face again lit up in a radiant smile and she flung her arms around Victoria, squeezing her tight. “I love you Victoria,” Amy whispered. "Thank you!" “You're so very welcome! And I love you too sweetheart,” Victoria replied. “Now come along then.” Half an hour later, Amy Sullivan pulled Victoria’s Grand Cherokee into the ...
