... the garage, Victoria then dropped it into drive and smashed her foot down on the gas pedal. She had to find Amy. For five hours in the pouring rain, Victoria drove the streets of Berkeley. She checked her office at the university, the Tea Room and every other possible place she could think of that a twenty-one year old girl might go. Victoria then covered a good portion of Oakland and even went into San Francisco. Finally, out of desperation, she drove out to Vallejo and checked every where she could think of before making her way to Donna and Amy’s home. By now it was pouring down rain and the house was pitch dark. Victoria knocked and rang the bell for nearly twenty minutes, but nobody answered. Soaking wet and utterly exhausted, both physically and emotionally, Victoria climbed back into her Grand Cherokee and headed for home. There was nothing more to do. She’d lost Amy. Probably forever. Victoria wept as she’d never wept before on the twenty minute drive back to her townhome. Shivering with wet and cold as she pulled into her garage, Victoria then wandered aimlessly into the house. I am so sorry!” “No my darling,” Victoria replied. “It was all my fault. Shhh…” Victoria cuddled and cradled Amy all the while gently rocking her in her arms as tears streamed down her cheeks. Her heart was thundering with joy and relief. The two women held each other for what seemed like hours. Finally, Amy began to compose herself. “Victoria,” she began. “Why are you all wet?” Victoria pulled out of their embrace and looked into Amy’s puffy eyes. “Because it’s raining,” Victoria replied. “And I’ve been out in it; looking for you all evening.” “You have,” Amy asked, completely taken aback and deeply moved. “Yes! And I guess my question is: Why are you not all wet? How long have you been back here?” Victoria inquired. “I don’t know really,” Amy babbled. “Couple of hour’s maybe.” “A phone call or a text message would have been tremendously appreciated,” Victoria told her. “I know,” Amy whispered. "I'm sorry." “It’s all right my darling,” Victoria ...
