... machine Barry said somewhat awkwardly, "How have you been Drew? I haven't seen you since Dianne's funeral. I'm sorry, I'm not good with grief. I just didn't know what to say to you." Drew stopped undoing the strap holding the quad onto the truck and stood up. "I'm good Barry, thanks for asking. Don't be sorry, I wouldn't have known how to act if the shoe was on the other foot. It was rough for a while. But it's good now." Barry was looking at him and trying not to show that he was still emotional over the death of his childhood friend's wife. Drew could see that Dianne's illness and passing still touched people. His first impulse and probably the correct one was to give Barry a hug and reassure him that he really was in a good place now. He didn't though, it just wasn't what two men did in rural Australia. "Who's Dave anyway?" Barry asked. Drew was now faced for the first time of finding an answer about his relationship with Dave. Should he be honest. He would like to be, but he didn't have the courage yet. "He is a good friend of mine from the city. He's coming up to work for Geoff and I over harvest," Drew replied. "Ah Geoff, how's the fag farmer going?" Barry asked with a smile on his face, "I haven't seen him for a long time either, I should call in and see him while I'm out this way. He's a nice bloke. He didn't know Barry was so gay friendly but attitudes in the country towns were changing. It wasn't as big a taboo to be gay as it once was. But he still wasn't going to divulge any information about his relationship with Dave. The shiny blue machine was now on the ground and Drew signed the delivery docket. They pushed the quad into the shed. Barry shook Drew's hand and said, "It is good to see you looking so well Drew." He handed Drew the new motor bike boots, the full face helmet and the keys then turned toward the truck. "Hey Barry. I'm having a barbecue on Saturday afternoon, would you like to bring your wife and kids out? It will just be me and Geoff, Dave and his wife Tess. Maybe a few others. Barry thought for a moment, "Sure, that would be good. I'll check with Janet tonight and give you a call. You sure you want my kids though. They can get pretty feral, but a day out here would do them the world of good." "Okay," Drew replied, "Ring me tonight." Later that afternoon he drove his F250 over to Geoff's. "Hey I'm thinking of killing a sheep and putting it on the spit Saturday afternoon if your interested," he invited to his neighbor, "That's if you don't mind me borrowing your spit roaster." "Yes I heard we were entertaining on the weekend, Barry Gilmore called in out of the blue this morning. I haven't seen him in years," Geoff replied, ...
