... long time. Every day he survived..." Jack takes a deep breath. "... increased his chances. Two weeks later, I was able to hold him against my bare chest, both under a nice, warm, and very soft blanket, night after night for almost four months. I sat with Anita, in her room, every evening, while Bob or Eve was holding him before I took over for the night. Anita, who was recovering, was with him every afternoon, no matter what her condition was. We held him, fed him when he started to eat, changed him, and bathed him. We sang to him and told him stories. We loved him. We wanted him to live. All his brothers and sisters came to do the same thing, relieving us from time to time. So, you see, our attachment to him, and his to us, is very special. Our love for him is boundless, you understand, and we're very protective of him, as you can see."
Karl holds Jack with one arm around his shoulders for a long moment, helping him through his emotions, until Bob puts his hands on their shoulders.
"Are you guys, okay? he asks, concerned, not knowing what Jack told Karl.
"Yes, Bob," Karl says. "We're okay. Your dad was telling me about Mathieu's difficult arrival into this world."
"Well, here he is," Bob says, looking at his baby brother, "a strong, brilliant young man who's in love with you, Karl." He sets his sights squarely on Karl. "Don't hurt him."
"Now you can understand our attachment to him, Karl," Jack says.
"Yes. I do." Karls turns around and looks at Mat playing ...
... with the unstoppable Daniel. His growl is but an emotional whisper. "He completely changed my life in a matter of seconds. I love him more than anything."
"Karl!" Bob says, playfully defiant, and wanting to lighten up the mood. "You know there's a game on tonight. Your team against my team. I'm betting a beer that we will crush and put your team to shame."
"You're on." Karl responds with the same defiance. "I think you got zero chance to beat us even if the game is in that pathetic kiddies' rink of yours."
Jack laughs.Boys will be boys, he thinks. He's happy to see that Karl, despite his rough-looking appearance and impressively stocky build, seems completely at ease with his family. He's convinced that Karl is deeply in love with Mat, and that's all that matters to him: Mat's happiness.
"Yeah!" Charles says, looking at his father. "No chance. We'll crush theSens."
That sets the mood for the hockey night at Mat's. Jack looks at his family and its new member and smiles. His baby boy seems happy, at last. He was worried about his lifestyle. He hopes Karl has also completely changed Mat's life.

Meanwhile, at Rosa's.
"You don't need to do that, Steve," Rosa tells her newfound lover.
"I know," Steve replies, "but it keeps me close to you." He wears a smile that says... Well, you know, that kind of smile only lovers understand.
To her surprise, the restaurant is full tonight. Steve eats a bite when he can while helping with the dishes. The cook runs ...
