... energy.
"Well... before we leave you to fester. We did want to give you your birthday present early." Lily chirped out the promise before disappearing into the adjacent living room, likely to find whatever nonsense they had been planning to give her. Vivienne sighed as she braced for anything, expecting something either embarrassingly personal or outrageously extravagant. Her kids always went all out on her gifts... She didn't expect this year to be different.
Her daughter reappeared from the doorway with a large black box, its size covering most of her torso with rows of an illegible script scrawled across it. She sat it on the counter in front of Vivienne, turning it on its axis so the back was now facing away from her. Viviene read the front of the box, a large picture of an odd pair of goggles plastered on the front with obnoxious technobabble font highlighted above it. She had no idea what it was, reading the name of the product as her kids looked at her with optimistic patience.
"VIRTUOUS IMAGINATION - VIRTUAL REALITY HEADSET - 4.0"
She recognized the product, the latest model of VR goggles that kept popping up during ad breaks on her nightly K dramas...
She was puzzled... This wasn't what she expected, a rather odd gift for someone like her... and an expensive one too... She admitted that she was fairly versed in technology, but this... She wasn't a gamer by any means and she certainly wasn't familiar with stuff this advanced. Most of her experience with ...

"Oh my... virtual reality goggles. Not what I thought you were getting me but certainly a fun gift... So do I... just plug it into my USB port or...?" Viv started inspecting the sides of the box for instructions, unsure of where to even begin on how to use it. She was certainly curious how it worked, if not a bit intimidated by something so high-tech.
"Tell you what Mom, since it's your day, I'll go get it set up for you in your room real quick. Give me like fifteen minutes, and then I'll leave you to play with it." Liam gave her a curious smirk as he grabbed the box from her, holding it under his arm as he started walking past her...
Was that smugness she detected or something else? She watched him carry it away from her, somewhat irked that he didn't even let her try to figure it out for herself.
"Wait, you can't just... I mean... at least show me how to use it." Vivienne tried to protest before surrendering the effort, throwing her hands up in exasperation as her son stopped in the kitchen doorway. He looked back at her like she was a lost puppy, the pity in his eyes only making Vivienne more offended by his insistence on doing everything for her.
"Just... Put the goggles over your eyes and press the big glowing button on its side. If you can't figure it out from there, then you may ...
