Mickey was gurgling, as blood spilled into his throat. Lifting his head, Matt looked across towards Mickey. There, laying in a pool of rapidly expanding blood, lay Tanya. Mickey was laying on the floor with his head on her stomach. Tanya looked at Matt and smiled. He couldn't hear her but could see the words her mouth was forming.

"I love you."

He realised what she'd done when his eyes were closed. She'd stepped in front of him as Mickey pulled the trigger. Being so close, the bullet had passed through her before slamming into Matt. He collapsed forward onto the floor and the world went dark.

As this played out, Peter moved position and Lance fired a single shot. Peter slumped to the floor dead. Hearing the gunshot by the cars, Lance turned and went back down the stairs. Kevin had gone to tend to Rick. Lance moved cautiously at first then, picked up speed once he saw the situation.

"Rick, get the reinforcements in here, now! Three down, all bad, including a pregnant woman with a gunshot wound to the stomach. They're all losing lots of blood!"

Rick made the call. Less than a mile away, the official part of the operation was waiting. A Regional practice response to a terrorist exercise was geared to get underway. It was never the case...it was the backup plan if it all went wrong.

Tanya was trying to speak so, Lance knelt next to her and put his ear to her mouth. Her breathing was shallow and her voice was barely audible.

"Mickey's Saint Christopher. Take it, everything you need is inside it."

Tanya closed her eyes as her breathing started to slow.

In the distance, the wailing of two-tone sirens was quickly getting closer. It was doubtful they could get there in time to save all of the lives at risk.
