... and was not allowed back in the school or to attend graduation. She had to deal with the Police since she was over 18. If she kept herself out of any other trouble for the next two years, the charges would eventually be dropped. She did have to do one hundred hours of community service that summer. She was required to be a coach at a soccer clinic for inner city children who had no soccer fields in their neighborhoods and who were transported to a huge park with several soccer fields. Jo never even considered this part as punishment.

The big blow though was her scholarship got revoked. Her coach never asked her to explain exactly what happened. Jo had been an excellent player but also an excellent person through four years of soccer at school. She knew something must have made Jo snap. She called and called to try to find something for Jo. Since Jo could not go to school, the coach came to the Napoli's house and spoke to Jo and her parents.

"No Division I school will take her now. But she can go to a Junior College and get a scholarship there. If she does well in school and does well playing soccer, she might be able to get a school to look at her for her last two years of eligibility. She would graduate on time from that school. It's a little late so the options are limited. I know this is a little far, but there is a school in Florida on the Gulf near Tampa where I have a connection. I have already spoken to them and they would be happy to take Jo there.

... need a defender and I know that is what you played a lot with your club team. If you would be willing to stay on the backline, you would have a spot for the next two years, get your education started and build up your soccer resume. In two years, I am sure some school would be willing to take you. Of course, the important thing is you cannot get into any trouble. What do you all think?"

Under the circumstances, it was better than she could have hoped for and so Jo, with her parents' blessing, accepted the offer from the Junior College in Florida. That summer she did her community service and when it was finally August, she was packing her bags. As she mulled over everything that had happened, she came to a final conclusion. Love was a myth. It was created to make people feel better about settling for being with someone who you could tolerate for the next forty or fifty years. What was real was sex. The feelings, the pleasures, the opportunities for pleasure were all out there. Trying to find one person was a waste of time and a lost opportunity for the joy and fulfillment of really good sex.

So, Jo went to the warm climate of Florida and spent two years going to school, playing soccer, staying out of trouble with the law and having lots and lots of sex. She left this last part off her resume and was able to get a scholarship offer from a school that was near the top of the rankings but needed a little help, particularly on the back line if they wanted to compete for a ...
