... knew that Jo tended to go full out and jump right into situations. She would need her mother's help at some point with this and now she had already alienated herself on this point with her daughter. Hopefully she could fix that in time to help her daughter before something bad happened. If not, at least she could be there to help pick up the pieces.

It had been three days before Angelina got to speak with her daughter. It was very distressing as Jo came home and ran up to her room. When she came down for dinner, she ate quickly and then ran back up to her room. She did not once go out to the backyard and practice her soccer. The last time that happened was during a big ice storm the previous year. And even then, Jo had been down in the basement juggling with a soccer ball.

When Joe had seen Jacqui in school that day, her heart was lifted. Jo was determined not to let Jacqui know there had been any problems at home after the date. They both talked about what a wonderful time they had and both agreed that they would have another "date" as soon as they could arrange it. When Jo got to her front door after school, she gathered herself as her plan was to enter the house and run up the stairs to her room again. This time, Angelina was ready. She had positioned herself at the foot of the stairs to keep Jo from running up to her room. When Jo threw open the door and headed for the stairs, she saw her mother blocking the way. So, it was a real surprise for Jo when the first thing her mother said was, "Bambina, I am so very sorry for yelling at you like I did the other night. That was wrong of me."

"I should have trusted you. You said there would be no boys and I should have known that meant there were no boys."

"I bet now you wish there had been."

"Why do you say that?"

"Because now you know I kissed a girl. And guess what, I'm going to do it again and again. What do you say about that?"

"I'll admit it was unexpected."

"So do you hate me because I like girls?"

"Oh Bambina, no. Look, your grandmother would be in the church now praying for your soul, I won't deny that. And yes, I never once thought that you might want to be with a girl. But things have changed since your grandmother's time and even since my time. I just want you to be happy. And I am fine if it ends up being another girl. As long as she treats you right."

"But that's just it Mama. It is now. I have found another girl and I am in love with her."
