"Oh, thanks," Amy said. She doubted she'd ever have any need for such a thing. She didn't even know if she'd ever see this place again. She felt much more comfortable now with the robe on than she had naked in the hallway. It was a momentary lapse in sanity. There must have been some kind of drug in the smoke from the brazier in the initiation room, or something.

She went to Amanda's car and sat in the passenger seat. She gave Amanda her address, and they started on the twenty minute drive home. Amanda asked her all sorts of questions about herself, and Amy answered honestly. She felt a real compassion from the woman, like she really wanted to get to know Amy. It was kind of nice.

"How should I explain this to my friends?" Amy blurted out, as they turned onto her street.

"Explain what?" Amanda asked. Amy couldn't tell if she was ...

"Maggie is going to tell them all some warped version of what happened. They're all shitty, judgmental teenagers and won't understand what we're about."

It sounded good, but Amy had her doubts. Plus, if she really just abandoned this like she was planning, that would never happen anyway.

"Is this it?" Amanda asked, pointing at Amy's house.

"Yeah."

"Let's exchange phone numbers. It's standard for an established member of our community to mentor the newer members, and I would like to mentor you personally. We could meet up a few times a week as our schedules allow, to discuss and work together. And of course, you're welcome to come to our weekly sessions at the temple on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings."

"Okay..." Amy said. She didn't have any intention of continuing with this weird impulse decision she'd made today, but she exchanged phone numbers with Amanda out of a sense of duty and politeness.

"I'll walk you to the door," Amanda said, and popped out of the car before Amy could object.
