### The Final Boyfriend

SUNDAY:

Theo was out window shopping at Elmwood Square. He wasn't looking to buy anything, he just enjoyed the solitude. With Paris in the skyscraper overlooking the area, Cain getting tutored right below and a Soul-Joined Primal on standby, Theo had been afforded the luxury of a trip around the block without supervision.

If a murderous nephil showed up right in the middle of a Baseliner crowd, well, hopefully the blond shaman would live to regret his recklessness.

It was one week into November and already some businesses were injecting a sprinkle of Christmas spirit into their shelves. Theo got a chewing rope from the pet store and walked back home.

A *huge* guy stepped right behind him.

"Hello my dear. All alone?"

Theo swirled around so fast he nearly fell. A seven feet tall hunk smiled down on him. Tan, buzz cut, ambiguous ethnicity. His white winter coat had a lot of folds -- almost like it was based on a tunic.

"Ho-honorsilvered?"

"That would be me," the angel said. He looked human, aside from being almost implausibly tall. "I didn't expect to run into you here. I was just getting used to roaming earth again. Stretching my wings, if you will."

"You're all glamoured up, huh?"

"Yes," Honorsilvered said with a slight pose. "Believable, isn't it? A lot has changed since my last trip and I'm not among those who enjoy keeping up with earth. I hope I don't sound too archaic."

"You're fine. Uh, ...

... why though? Why are you here?"

"Ultimately, I want to reestablish contact with the Knowing. Your appearance has shaken some things loose and various research projects have been dusted off."

"Do you... want to come in?"

"I'd love to."

They walked into the Onyx, to the apartment elevator and with a fingerprint scan, made their way up.

"Hi everybody," Theo said as he shed his jacket. "Guess who I ran into."

"Who?" Mako asked. He was bent over Cain who was bent over math textbooks. Mako had built a computer set up so he could work from Theo's apartment once or twice a week.

He looked up and jolted at the sight of Honorsilvered, making Cain turn, too.

Everest the Labrador came racing and skittered on the floor, a breeze of cold air hitting Theo in her wake. She bowed to Honorsilvered. "Greetings, old one."

"Hello... ice muse?"

"This is Everest, bound to Mako who's our liaison to the Primals while this place becomes waking bomb central. You've met Cain."

Mako stared, then realized he was staring. "Uh, hi mister angel-man."

Theo turned to the giant. "What do we call you?"

"Honorsilvered."

"Yeah but, like, in human guise. Out there."

Honorsilvered shrugged. "We often go by Adam, if we must be addressed by Baseliners. Eve, if female."

"Little basic," Cain said. "I'll grind my nickname skill on you. Angelo? Or maybe if we keep it bible-centric, Raphael, Gabriel, Michael? John, if we need to stick with the basicness level."
