... all of them.
"You are a very attractive herd of reindeer," he said, happily.
A couple of them smiled at the compliment, including Vixen. A couple others growled, unhappily, while the others just looked on blankly.
"Now I do want to get to know you all. Like I said, I'll be your, um, shepherd, at least while Miss Kennedy is here on the island."
Before he met them, he had planned to describe himself as their keeper. He didn't want to say jailer or guard.
He again looked at each of them, gauging their mood, but they all seemed reserved, numb, maybe.
"Okay, well, let's go outside. It's nice out there, sunny and warm."
He steered the six of them outside. They didn't resist, in fact as he had suspected they were happy to get out of their rooms, and into the fresh air.
Once they were outside, he more or less led them in a walk around the perimeter of the yard. The entire area was covered in grass, it was flat and well maintained, like all the rest of the resort. They all moved pretty well on their hooves. But they remained quiet. The only sound they made was the soft jingle of their bells, as they moved along.
When they arrived back at the door to their building, he stopped them in the shade of a couple trees.
"Okay. I have some questions for you."
"What about us?" Cupid asked. "We have questions, too."
"Fair enough, we'll take turns. Go ahead. What's your first question?"
"Why did they do this to us?" she asked.
"Well, I don't really ...
... know the answer to that. I assume they transformed you because Miss Kennedy wanted it. She certainly paid for it.
"I do know she has a big Christmas party planned, so I assume reindeers will fit in with that theme."
Looking at their faces, he did find them exotically beautiful, he could see that although his explanation made sense, they didn't like what they were hearing.
"Okay, my question. How long have you been like this? Reindeers, I mean."
They all just looked at each other waiting for one of them to answer. Finally, Dancer spoke up. "About a week like this, here in this building. Before that we were in the hospital for several weeks, and then in a barn, alongside some ponygirls."
"That's where we learned to walk in our frigging hooves." Prancer added, appropriately. She was 'prancer', after all.
"Alright, thanks. Your turn," he said.
"Will we ever go back?" Dasher asked, hesitantly. She seemed on the verge of tears.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what the plans are. Only Ms. Kennedy can answer that question."
Vixen stepped over to hug her friend, "Charlotte, honey, I doubt if they'll ever change us back. We're stuck like this, as reindeer, forever. You have to get used to the idea"
She delivered the news, softly, consolingly, but firmly. Both Charlot and Dancer, broke into tears.
"I know that, but I keep hoping." Dancer whined.
He gave them a few minutes to recover, before asking his next question. "How are your rooms? Comfortable enough? ...
