I stood up, on shaky legs, and walked over to my purse and camera. I picked up the camera and looked at it, then smiled. I held my camera out towards the men, still sitting on the floor. “I don’t have to worry about anyone believing me, David, you asshole, I have it all on video. My camera recorded it all. How does it feel to be Spirit’s new bitch?”

The day ended with us getting dressed and leaving the kennel. Nothing else was said by David about euthanizing Spirit or about any of the events that just happened. John and I shared knowing glances back and forth and tried to contain our grins about David getting bred by Spirit. We all got to our cars and drove home. I had Spirit with me. I took no chances that David would do something bad to him, so he was with me from that night onward.

I drove home and then told my husband, Frank, the entire, unbelievable story. He was thrilled about the situation. We not only had Spirit with us, but when he learned that there was video evidence to keep David from taking any further action against me or Spirit, he was elated. It was like a horror movie with a happy ending. And I knew, with Spirit living with us now, there would be many happy endings in our future.
