... stormed towards Judge Perez who was holding his arm where a throwing knife was sticking out of it.

"Sir. Cut his balls off as you instructed?" Kelly asked as she stormed up to the judge.

The Judge had a bewildered expression painted on his face as he looked at the knife sticking out of his arm. Shock was setting in quickly. 'Good'. I thought to myself.

The sheriff seeing Kelly advance on the Judge started to pull his service pistol but Kelly was faster and a second knife appeared out of nowhere and ended up in the Sheriff's upper arm close to the shoulder. His arm fell limp.

"KELLY! STOP!" I yelled. She froze. Looked at both the Judge and Sheriff then back at me. Seeing me on the ground she ran back and knelt down beside me.

"Oh Sir. I'm so sorry I failed you."

I had to laugh. "Failed me? I alive right now because of you." Laying my hand on her cheek I said, "Good girl. But now the real trouble begins. Be ready for Armageddon when we get home. The last time I got hurt Tammy was... impossible." Then I felt my leg where it was burning. I looked at my hand as I pulled it away. Blood.

"Where's the gun?" I demanded.

"At the Judge's feet." Kelly answered.

"Chief Jacobs, secure the area and get an ambulance headed this way. Tell them one GSW and two knife wounds. Put all three in cuffs. Tandy, get down on the ground now before someone here puts you on the ground. You've caused enough trouble for today." I barked out while lying on the ground.

Tandy ...

... reluctantly laid down on the ground. "This isn't over Coats and you know it."

"Shut up Tandy. Any leverage you thought you had is going out the window as we speak. A news conference has already been scheduled where the Assistant Secretary of State of Texas is going public and exposing everything including the blackmail attempt you orchestrated trying to cover up the murder of those two girls. That's right, you walking pile of shit. That supposed get out of jail free card you thought you had just disappeared into a puff of smoke. But at least you won't be lonely in Huntsville. Looks like you'll have at least two friends joining you to keep you company on those long and lonely prison nights. Unless of course, one of them decides to turn themselves into the State's star witness against you." I smiled through the pain.

The Chief hearing the exchange took immediate action. "Officers. Cuff all three and put them in separate cars now. I don't want them talking to each other at all. As soon as the ambulance gets here this man goes to the hospital first." he said pointing at me.

After he made sure his orders were carried out, he leaned down to me. "Coats, is it? If you don't mind my asking, just who in the hell are you?"

"Just a guy laying on the ground with a bullet wound in his leg, Chief." It was then one of the Rangers stepped up and looked me over. Seeing who it was I cursed under my breath. He on the other hand laughed.
