... should have known better as that lasted for all of about ten minutes until the next interruption.

Nurse "Ratchet" showed up with a doctor and hospital security in tow. I looked at them and then back at Kelly. She reached over and handed me my phone while the nurse proceeded to tell anyone who would listen this was a hospital and not a motel room and it was against hospital protocol.

I had had enough of her and her attitude. I let her know, (I wasn't very diplomatic by now), that if she had a problem with the sleeping arrangements, she needed to call the surgeon who had according to her own hospital's regulations ordered us to remain for overnight observation. I then proceeded to tell her Kelley was my assistant, body guard, and for tonight, my bed partner. I then asked which role of hers she was willing to replace for the night. She could either climb in bed with me or stand guard outside my door in order to take the next bullet for me. I didn't get the chance to offer any other options as she stormed out of the room before I could finish. The staff doctor was working hard to keep from laughing as she ran out the room.

He told me he would write a doctor's order stating I was not to be disturbed until 6am except when it came time for my meds. I told him to make it for 4am as I had family flying in tonight and the last thing that need to be dealing with once they arrived was someone trying to stop them from seeing me. I was kind enough to give the doctor a heads up ...

... that the nurse who thought she ruled the roost around here was going to be in for a very rude awakening when my wife showed up if she did try and stop her.

While the doctor and security were still in the room, I called the Chief and asked if I could impose upon him for a favor. I let him know my family was going to be flying in around 4am and if he could arrange for a car to pick them up and bring them to the hospital. The Chief said he would meet them himself. I thanked him, hung up. He wished us a good night and left the room.

At 4:35AM, an ungodly commotion disturbed the entire floor, waking us up. Nurse Ratchet was sadly still on watch and she was getting to meet the force of nature I lovingly call my wife. I told Kelly to go grab everybody and bring them back here before they woke up the entire floor, not that I thought anyone was allowed to sleep while in a hospital.

A couple of minutes later Kelly was guiding Tammy, Debby, Jack and Chief Jacobs into the room. Nurse Ratchet tried to follow but Kelly shut the door in her face. I smiled to myself as it seems I'm not the only one she managed to piss off. After everyone got settled, Jack proceeded to examine my leg. The leg was swollen but it was to be expected. He poked and prodded me several times before deciding I'd live. I complained about the pain from all of his poking around the wound and he told me to quit being such a baby. Damn good thing I think of him as my brother.
